How many items in your home hold their value like a Rolex?

Everyone: look around your house. For most of us, the ans is ZERO!

A guy said to me that spending $$ on a Rolex was a waste of $$.

I told him the following: "Imagine the things in your house that you bought 10yrs ago. How many of them are worth the same now or more as compared to 10yrs ago? I will tell you the answer: NONE! ...99.999% of the things you spent money on 10yrs ago, apart from Real-estate and gold, you got nothing to show for ... your money is down the toilet..."

He then said "well, some stocks" and I said "ok, I give you that .. there ain't much else .... and stocks, well you can't really enjoy them, unless you are a demented kind of a person "

I don't know I've never tried selling them but I suppose my Snap On tools hold their value pretty well?

Some rugs are also worth more.

Some Lladro special edition.

Some vases and sculptures.

Dan, love your barber chairs! I have a Cokin from the early 1900's which is a treasure to me.

Yep, we have lots of things which hold value better than a Rolex, but I still like my one and only Rolex, an EXP II white dial. Cheers, Bill P.

Thanks, Dave!

1939 GE, I've been able to pickup Radio Moscow and the BBC on it.

Btw, recently went to a Fuente Cigar Night at a local bar and the cigar cutter you generously gifted me was quite the hit.

Only two things that would compare in terms of holding value would be the house itself and my gun collection.

Not sure what you guys are talking about.

Buying a used Rolex at a good price will hold its value, or resale for close to what you paid.

New Rolexes out of an AD showroom floor are WORSE THAN CARS. You lose at least 30%+ the second you walk out the door, unless it is a less common model like a SS Daytona perhaps.

NOPE ..... Cars are worse ....In cars, you take a 20% hit the moment you drive off the lot. After 5 yrs of ownership, an average car's value is at MAX 50% of what you paid. After 5 yrs, you lose 10% per year.

So you are telling me in 5 yrs, a $9000 DEEPSEA is going to be worth $4500??? Let me know where .... i will buy a few ...
