These numbers are between the 6:00 lugs: 679***.

These are between the 12:00 lugs: 6050.

Hello Fr. John!!
What a beautiful watch you got there!! Really gorgeous! Love it!
And in a fantastic shape indeed!
"6050" is the reference number.
the serial number, between lugs at 6, puts your watch in the 1948/1950 period.
I wish you enjoy this so fine time in good health!
Best cordial regards, Abel.

My wife says I collect stories along with my watches so here is the story that goes with this piece.

The engraving on the back reads "C. Thos. Clagett - Chevy Chase MD". Mr. Clagett died in 2001 and this watch was acquired from his estate. (C. Thomas Clagett obituary)

If you visit the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, you will see photographs of Mr. Clagett overseeing the construction of the massive edifice. History reveals that he was a direct descendant of Thomas John Clagett, the first bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America to be consecrated on American soil and the first bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland.

Interestingly, Mr. Clagett's beater watch was a Seiko.

My watchmaker has inspected this piece and assures me that the dial is original. The bracelet is, of course, aftermarket and 14k. I have an Omega bumper from 1950 on a mesh bracelet which is 14k as well. My watchmaker says that 18k was considered too soft for delicate mesh bracelets.

Thank you for sharing this history behind your beautiful watch.
As a matter of fact, I feel that the history behind each piece we own, is the most fascinating part of the collecting activity, whichever is the focus of your collection (stamps, pictures, firearms, cars or watches, and a long etcetera).

These stories, add to the fascination and enjoyment of the collected piece.

Nice to learn the story behind this so nice time pice.
Thank you and kind regards, Abel
