Why do you like the Sub or Sea

Sub and Sea owners tell us what you like about your watch, Just an up date I never got my watch, YES IT'S TRUE. My AD had us waiting over 4 months for my SUB .

So we cancelled and now I have a choice with a new Dealer who is awesome. He has both watches and I can pick it up Friday

Both watches look the same to some degree, however, I picked the SD because of the added "features" of the watch, as well as the ruggedness and weight. I like heavy/bulky watches.

Added features of the SD are the helium escape valve, only watch in Rolex line that has an engraved backcase, comes with it's own tool kit with XL spare extension link, thicker crystal, no cyclop on date.

Oh, and the Subs are too common. I wanted something different.

Both excellent watches running the same 3135 movement. As for the rest, Kris has just given you a brief rundown. Try on both and see which one smiles back.

The SD is much thicker and will wear a little higher. So if you have a small wrist, not sure how comfortable you will feel with it. The Sub-date on the other hand, is IMHO the quintessential Rolex and will live forever.

I was in the same situation when I bougth my sub.
My advice try them both, and take the one you like the most.
If you are not a proffesional diver the added features on the seadweller really doesn't matter. ( 300 meters is more then enough for the most of us).

Take the one that feels good.

Actually, the non sub oysters go deep enough for 98% if the world. That is the beauty of these babies. You can dive with your DJ if you are like most human swimmers.

But, to the question, I think what fascinates us subconsciously about these two watches is that they have that great impermeability under pressure...pressure to which we will likely not expose them....I think we kind of know that they will outlive our mortal lives, and that makes them more powerful than most any of our other possessions such as clothes and cars. They stack up with one's house maybe.....Big cool little asset.

I love my LV so far cause I like the Maxi Dial. I am liking the green more and more. I like knowing that I have a real classic on the wrist.

I decided to choose between GMT 2, Submariner and SeaDweller.

The lightest and thinnest is the GMT 2. Submariner next, and the SeaDweller the biggest.

The SeaDweller is really quite tick, and so I turned it down. I felt that it was too high, and would be difficult to wear under a shirt sleeve. However, I did like the fact that it had no cyclops.

As for the Submariner, I felt that it had no extra feature compared with the GMT 2 (and had one hand less).

So I got the GMT 2.
(I know, you are not interested in the GMT 2!)

As JJ says the movement is the same and as a practical matter I think one is as "tough" as the other.
I like the Sub personally as it seems more comfortable on my wrist, but that's such a personal preference. The SD sits a bit higher, has a more utilitarian look to me, and because of the links in the bracelet is adjusted a bit differently to get a proper fit for me.
I'd try both and go with which feels better,

SD or Sub

I bought the SD but as I get older I find it harder to read the date, now I would buy the Sub.

Wow I think everything has been said about these two watches. Arturo well said. Mike Love the photos and the info. Mansion I like the GMT also I want to get one and if I do it will be my last Rolex for a while.
I have an LV Sub and the SD. I wear the SD every day, I like the weight and I also like the fact that the SD is not as common as the sub. I usually wear my LV Sub around the house so I can keep it looking good. I took would say get the one that smiles at you. I bought my SD first and I only bought a Sub because I found the LV, yes I am weird I actually love the green bezel.

My very first original affair with Rolex was simply the cyclops eye! That's right the cyclops eye defined for me what a Rolex was all about. The watch that I obsessed over back then was the 18K Day/Date, which to this very day I have not owned yet. I finally bought a used DJ in 2001, but due to the work enviroment I was in, the DJ kept drawing to much attention. So, about 10 months ago I finally bought a SS Sub 14060M, I noticed that no one was drawn to the style! they just wrote it off as a everyday dive watch. But the cyclops eye still continued to haunt me. So, armed with this new perspective that most people blow off these style watches without suspecting it to be a Rolex, I finally bought the SS Sub date, this drew some sporatic looks , but not like the DJ. I eventually bought a GMT, Seadweller, and TT Blue Sub. I wear the SS Sub date, because it fufills my Rolex passion of a cyclops, and keeps most people off guard as to it's identity as a Super Fine Rolex watch. I think I lost my train of thought here! Good luck with your DJ!

The Sea-Dweller Its bold ,its robust, its heavy, its unique and different, yet its also very elegant and clean cut.The date window without the cyclops is exquisite. The whole watch looks very clean, without the cyclops. The slightly higher position of the crystal, looks amazing from the side, especially when in light it gives an extra bit of sparkle. The cuts in the bezel also reflects nicely.More comfy to wear compared to my Blue TT Sub,but I do have big wrists. The added hight of the case, keep the crown away from the skin. Its a very well balanced design, where the components form a complete whole.

The ss Sub/date,is just such a good buy.A classic in its own right.

My Dweller will always be nr 2,behind "the Blue King",but what a wonderful nr 2 it is ...

Good luck !!

I went through the exact same thing when I bought my GMT-II

Everyone here has provided excellent guidance. Just try on both watches and compare them side to side. One watch will certainly seem smile at you more. As you trying them on, try to visualize wearing them throughtout the day. I liked both watches and ended buying the LV sub date. I already own a Breitling Windrider Cockpit chrono which is heavy and bulky. A slimmer sub just seemed a better choice as a 2nd watch for me. If I didn't own the Breitling, I may have purchased the SD - who owns what would have smiled at me more at time of purchase.

I chose the SD because of its bulkiness. Both are great watches, so there really isn't a right/wrong choice. Pick which ever sings to you the loudest.

Freddy, I also suggest the SD it seems like a great watch that is a little heavier than a sub and if you dont like the cyclops this is perfect.
If you need help on a price let me know via pm... I have a few friends on 47th st
