New Daytona in 2013(?) and Vintage Value

Merry Christmas everyone!

Here's a thought for the day:
What if Rolex releases a 50th Anniversary Daytona in 2013, as some on TRF have suggested, and what if it's made to look like the vintage pieces -- maybe solid black/white subdials contrasting with white/black dial, perhaps a black bezel insert (what an anniversary release might look like is pure, champagne-induced speculation on my part!)

I think that would be a BEAUTIFUL watch, as the vintage Daytonas are quite striking -- and what a way to celebrate the anniversary by combining that vintage beauty with the functionality of the modern in-house Rolex movement. Maybe the best of everything??

Anyone think Rolex might do something like that?

And if they did, would it depress the market for vintage pieces?? I'm thinking of buying a vintage, but wonder about waiting until 2013 (if I can!) to see what happens...

No--it will have zero impact on the vintage market. The vintage market is driven by supply and demand. There are only so many 30, 40 and 45(etc.) year old Daytonas in collector condition out there. Modern Rolexes do not have any correlation to the vintage market-they are totally unrelated. So--go get your vintage Daytona and if you ever want a new one to go with it--you will always have that option!!!

Thanks. Of course you're right, and it was a stupid question. I think I'm just stalling... I need to man up and buy my vintage grail!!!
