That most Rolex like ballpoint pen in the world….

Like Hans Wilsdorf, Paul Fisher (Nevada, USA) set out to make the best pen humanly possible. The results transcended what might have been thought to be humanly possible.

Through research and innovation Paul Fisher developed a ballpoint pen that could:

(a) write as smooth and have a flow of ink that would be a sheer writing pleasure;

(b) write at any angle;

(c) write at any humanly possible temperature (-30 to +250 deg.)

(d) write in zero gravity;

(e) write for 3 miles;

(f) write without leaking with a shelf-life estimated to be 100 years (no ink drying);

(g) write under water and over greasy surfaces;

In 1965 Paul Fisher by Patent # 3,285,228 registered his new pen invention.

Paul Fisher perfected the ballpoint refill by using thixotropic (a semisolid-ink) that remains so until the shearing action of the rolling ball (tungsten carbide ball) liquefies it such that the ink flows only when needed (no leaks). The hermetically sealed refill is pressurized with approximately 35 p.s.i. of nitrogen so that it doesn’t rely on gravity to make it work.

Like Rolex this pen will go with you anywhere and work well anywhere.

The pens are famous for having accompanied astronauts on all manned space flights (both USA and Russian) since 1967. Made entirely in the USA these pens are a testament to commitment and dedication to quality and perfection.
Here is the initial NASA official specification:

I personally love the Cap-O-Matic in chrome. It’s just a great pen and for the price you will not believe. Extraordinary value for money.

Here is my Christmas present:

The fine grooves work amazingly well to provide grip

The range of refills with colours and thicknesses is excellent. Personally I love the 'blue bold' refill it just glides across the paper.

I had one, which was promptly stolen off my desk, and your Rolex comparison is apropriate. Never tried mine underwater though. Is there really underwater paper?

Well there is a kind of waterproof paper (tactical) its called "Rite in the Rain".

Incredible paper, I'd like to try it. Evidently that paper and the Fisher Pens are a match made in heaven.

Hopefully, I'll be buying a bunch of these for giveaways.

The Russians just used a pencil for their early space flights.... (apparently)

Awesome pen though!

That's correct the Russians did use a pencil but did not hesitate to change to the Fisher Space Pen when Russia and the USA shared their space technology.

Think I might start searching around eBay for something from this brand. I'd like something which writes well, but is also good value.

My Uzi tac pen feels too heavy/large, and I've yet to extract any DNA with it. ;)

Funny that this post appeared in time for Christmas. I received two Fisher Space pens this year in my stocking. The classic Bullet Pen that almost disappears and fits nicely into a pair of jeans and the Cap-a-matic which is lacquered brass and was engraved with my name for free when I ordered it direct from the factory. Both are fully functional and are as advertised.

Those notebooks are issued to us in the Army now and are very well made.

Just ordered the Cap-o-matic chrome plated model. All of the Aussie sellers were $30-45 incl shipping. Found an authorised Fisher dealer in the US that was $13.45USD incl. First class USPS shipping to here.

The price difference wasn't a surprise, and I went with the US dealer (as I try to do for most purchases). Happy to have found a nice looking cheapie that should write fairly well.

Nice going Trev It comes standard with a black medium tip refill. Depending on your writing preferences you may like to use a different width tip.

The Fisher pens remind me those Seinfeld episodes. :)

I recently moved some of my organisational stuff out of the digital realm and in to a little "black book" moleskin. Mostly for short term tasks/items I need to remember.

It's always a shame when Australian businesses seem to completely disregard the global market, exchange rates, etc. I do support the good Australian businesses, and there is increasingly more of them around. Unfortunately the situation is pretty sad with anything marine/sailing related, especially electronics.

I bought 2 Fisher pens. (1) Black Grid Design shuttle Space Pen. When I apply the pen to paper the cartridge retracts. (2) American Flag Space Pen. The first day I had it I pulled it out of my pocket to use it and it fell apart and I was unable to find the push button. It has been my experience that they write well but the cases aren't as good as the ones you get for from your bank/dentist.

Well Fisher gives an unconditional guarantee with each pen, so you can definitely get it changed over if there is any kind of quality issue.

My Cap-o-matic has a really nice 'click' function and it is otherwise solid as a rock...

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'fell apart' but these pens are primarily made of steel and work really well in my brief experience, I couldn't be happier.

I really hope that you can get your pens fixed

100% made in the USA

USA stuff is usually great. I'm just a little scared about going to the USA though it is a daunting place with all the scary stuff you see happening on the TV. Makes me wonder how can I relax you never know when you might be confronted by the cookie monster.

When I say that the Flag pen came apart I'm referring to the fact that it was spring loaded and launched the push button and I couldn't find it. I had just bought it so it had apparently not been screwed together tightly, I hadn't checked it. I threw it away in anger and disgust. I didn't spend enough for either pen to go through the aggravation of returning them. --- I sure hope you're not serious about being concerned about coming to the USA. That would be embarrassing. I think the crime problems have been blown out of proportion by a media seeking an audience. I leave my Rolexes on my dresser and don't lock my house when we go away for the weekend.

I have a Fisher "Bullet" titanium finish space pen that fits neatly into one of the side pouches in my Leatherman Charge TTi Sheath. I have a mini maglite in the other side pouch and I think they are three of the most useful things I can keep in my cars glovebox as well as being beautiful pieces of design.

Hey Leo, my order was through http://www.cyberspacepens.com/about-us.html (no affiliation with them). They also have an ebay store with very good customer feedback.
http://myworld.ebay.com.au/cyber_space_pens

The shipping was very reasonable.

I thought that may have been the dealer you went through Trev.

Yeah, I went searching through a few ebay companies and other online stores. This company seems to be a good balance of legit/trustworthy/value.

You can get the whole set of 5 cap-o-matic's for $55USD.

Yes, but some of those pens are not really very attractive i.e. tan (desert storm) colour.

No I have not tried the 'lifetime ink supply' models. Surely that must mean that you get a lifetime of refills rather than a single refill being able to last a lifetime.

It's just one big cartridge inside the pen:

Quote:
Several of the Fisher Space Pen models (the "Millennium" is one) are claimed to write for a lifetime of "average" use; however the product literature states that the pen will write exactly 30.7 miles (approximately 48.15 kilometers).

I write a lot and have about four pens that I've used for years. I'm always interested in a pen with superior writing performance so I will investigate this one much further. Thanks Stevo for the information.

I changed my Uzi tac pen's refill for a Fisher one and now have it in the car in case of an emergency. As soon as my other refills runout I'm going to replace them all with Fisher ones. As Stevo said, they write very smooth
