Do You Need the Date Function?

My father just received a Milgauss (green sapphire crystal) for Christmas. It was a complete surprise - he literally couldn't breathe when he opened the present. It is a beautiful watch and I am seriously considering purchasing the same for my first Rolex. My only problem is my inability to remember the date. Have others tailored their Rolex purchase based on whether the watch has a date? I am going back and forth between the aforementioned Milgauss and the SS GMTII C. I seem to be hung up on the fact the Milgauss does not have the date feature.

I have one with the date and one without. For me, having the date feature is not a deal breaker....it's more about how I like the style/design of the watch.

Some folks feel like they need a date..............

Some folks can't drive a stick shift either.........

.. One of those is a good reason not to buy a particular car, but you can find the date anywhere practically............

Gotta have a date on the watch, and my favorite transmission is the 18 speed Eaton-Fuller double over .

My Dad wore his Sub no date for 31 years...when I went to get mine I asked him what he thought, he told me to get the DATE, he missed it and if he could go back he would have had it!

So I did, and I use it.

I need the date. The only non-date watches I have are the Daytonas, which I rarely wear more than two days in row. Sometimes I rely on my watch more for the date then the time.

I like a date; however, my Explorer and No Date Sub do not have dates and I enjoy them immensely. All my other watches have a date.

I do find myself looking at my watch if someone says 'what's the date' and I'm Doh, I'm wearing my ND Sub, but really how often do you really not know the date.

If you are only going to have one watch I would prefer one with a date though.

+1. When I'm wearing my ND, someone always manages to ask me what the date is. I also like the .5mm larger size on the 16610. It's small but noticeable.

I looked at the date twice today when filling out some papers. My GMT IIc is a great watch. Of course we are traveling a lot and when I'm home I like to keep track of two time zones.

My first one just had to have the Cyclops (GMTIIC). My fourth one just had to be a Daytona, by then I had a Cyclops already.

Date or no date you'll be able to make it. The biggest qualifier is whether the watch sings to you or not.

Where's the poll????

For me, I really prefer having the date. I've worn a watch with a date since I was a young teenager and have a frequent habit (even when not being asked) to look at my watch to see the date. I *always* look at my watch when someone asks, "so what are you doing Friday night?" and I have to put Friday in context with today's date.

I am sure there are ways to overcome this, but given the fact that I've been looking at my wrist for the date almost 30 years, I prefer to maintain that muscle memory habit!

I need the date, I am signing legal documents throughout the day and when I purchased my Daytona this was a deal breaker for me... for me it is very important

I desire the date feature.

Like Henry Ford, I don't fill my head with needless info (I'm not as successful as Henry Ford was, though ), so I always look at my watch to see what the date is. Yes, quite a few times a day.

It's especially helpful when writing invoices!

I could unclip my dumb smartphone from my belt, open the case, remove it and slide a few fingers over it, but THAT seems like a lot of wasted energy since the date is always "at hand."

Two must-have features for me - the date and GMT function. I travel having the date and two time zones keep me on track when I call the U.S.

The Milgause is a very sweet watch. It looks very clean without the date. They are really growing on me and feel that I need one but there 3 others that I want prior.

Get the Mil.. enjoy it.. If you you catch the bug, you will want other models also.. Get a date Rolo at that time..

I need food, water, and shelter. The rest is preferences. If the Milgauss appeals to you get that. When you need to know the date, well that's what the fellow next to you is for.

As I'm currently working, I find the date very handy. When I retire, I'll only need to remember golf dates. Ummm, yep, I'll still need the date function.

Before I bought my Explorer, it had been an awfully long time since I had owned a watch without a date--probably no fewer than 35 years, so I was pretty accustomed to looking at my wrist for the date.

When I bought my Explorer, the lack of a date didn't even enter my mind, but I did spend a couple of weeks looking at my wrist for the information I would not find there.

When I bought the DateJust, the fact that it had a date had no influence on my buying it. I was just blown away by how beautiful it was.

Having the date on my wrist is a nice feature, but it no longer feels like a necessity, and frankly, I rarely look at my DJ for the date, although it's hard not to notice when I do look at it for any other reason including telling the time.

I find that sometimes when i DO need to check the date and i look at the watch, I second guess myself and ask myself things like: Did i remember to bump it up an extra day because of the short month? Or, when the watch stopped last night and i gave it a full wind did i set the time correctly re: AM/PM and the date change should've happened last night at midnight but it will change at noon instead. So am i looking at last night's date? ROFL Then I look at the computer screen and get the date from there.

I love the aesthetics of the Milgauss (GV), however, I must say I need a date function on my timepieces!!!

Ha! I'm with you on this Dave. I never know if my date is correct and end up looking at my computer screen or smart phone to verify. Lord... But I do like knowing its there.

Happy NY everyone.

I don't use my Rolex for the date, or for the time for that matter. If I wanted accuracy I'd buy a Timex. Rolex is jewelry. Nothing else.
