Sought after vintage
Greetings,
I am interested in a 5512/5513 with box/papers. Which models are most likely to have increases in value. Thank You |

The ultimate 5512--aside from a 3-6-9 dial--is a Tropical gilt dial with closed chapter ring and 4 lines. Finding one--next to impossible with a 9 plus dial and box and papers. There are so many variances in Subs. The first thing you have to decide is how much you want to spend. Second--I would not worry about increase in value-I would worry about whether or not you love the watch and want to wear it!! Happy hunting!

What are your thought on the early 5512s/gilt/enclosed chapter ring/TWO line? Is seems to be one that catches the collector's eye and to be honest would be one I would shoot for if condition and originality proved to pan out. It seems some collectors debate on whether these very early examples were even COSC certified. I'm not sure I've heard the final answer. |

Mike-
I love 2 line gilt-closed chapter ring as well. I have one as well. As for COSC certified--both of my 61 and 62 came with full papers including the COSC Cert. I can take picture and post if anyone wants--later though! I would highly recommend if you can find a perfect example to go for it. On these early gilt dials--the dial is everything--so have to find a great dial. Here is a shot of mine below which is with Bob Ridley right now getting overhauled - not polished though--notice the thick lugs and perfect bevels/chamfered edges!!! Best and Happy New Year!!!

LOL!!! I am an ever growing collector in search of the holy grail!!! I have yet to find my grail!! The 6240 PN Screw down and the 4 line 6538 with perfect gilt dial. Also--a 5517 Military Sub would be nice--not the 5513-British Naval Sub but the SAS Army Sub! If anyone wants to help--look no further!! PS--Kyle--I am quite sure by the time you are my age-your collection will surpass mine and everyone else on TRF!!!!

Speaking of vintage Subs--make sure you head over to either VRF or TZ and check out Mike Wood's collection. It is unreal!! I have never seen so many amazing subs at one time!! Definitely worth checking out!!!

Thanks Ken, yours is pretty hot too
From what I have read, my understanding is that all the early 5512's were COSC rated, it was only after the none COSC 5513 came along that they decided to mark the 5512 dials as COSC to distinguish them from the 5513's, which were not COSC rated. I am relatively new with these so welcome correcting if this is wrong How about some photo's of your complete packaged 5512's Ken, I would love to see them thanks |

61' 4 line and 62' 2 line for your viewing pleasure.
I have also take off all of my original bracelets and store them and wear mine on 93150 bracelets! Preserves them and far more comfortable!!

Very nice Ken, thanks for that. I wish I could find the papers for mine, the original owner from new lost them years ago but I live in hope that I might get a call out of the blue from him saying he's just found them in his sock drawer
