Sports watch with a suit - ok or mistake?
In the US my observation is that wearing sports watches with suits is very common, at least in recent years - I see a lot more of those than the traditional gold watch on a leather strap. However I've seen several comments from members in other countries that indicate there may be cultural differences in this.
Case in point: I was in a meeting recently, everyone wearing suits, all Canadian or US people except for one guy from the UK. Everyone had on some kind of steel or steel/gold watch on a metal bracelet (Rolex, Breitling, etc.) except the guy from the UK had on a gold watch on a leather strap. What do you think? I'm seting up a poll now that tries to sort this out by geography (as best I can with the max of 10 response options on the poll function). |

Rolex sports watches...yes. Cheapo Casio/Nike-type plasticky sports watches with suits look stupid. I know a couple of guys that are Sr. executives and they look ridiculous.

Mods can you please delete this? Some kind of glitch and now I can't create the poll - will start over with a new thread. Thanks.

The consensus here is that any Rolex goes with any attire.
From a strictly sartorial perspective, that is not the case, but in this day and age, the rules are routinely bent as an expression of individualism.

The Rolex on your wrist could be worth more than your entire suit and car put together.
Go for it!! |

If I have a Rolex, it is precisely to wear it in all conditions. I have lived in the US, UK (well, London ), Germany, France (well, Paris ) and now Portugal and have travelled quite a bit and I have never felt out of place (well, I always feel out of place, but in a positive way....).

IMO, a colored insert (Sub and GMT) is a "faux-pas" with a suit.
The black insert goes perfect with a suit. |

Totally agree, black insert with a suit. However, if one was wearing a sports jacket then a colored bezel should be fine as it would portray a casual or informal setting.
