Basel 2011 rumour from my AD
My AD says that he wouldnīt be surprised that Rolex would introduce two new models:
Daytona with a date and Explorer II with some changes (bigger watch). I asked him how certain he was but he couldnīt confirm anything, but he had talked to someone from Rolex in Switzerland. |

....And there is the key word... "Rumors"
My vote goes to new Explorer 2 with yellow hand and updated YM with new case and clasp. I doubt they will update the Daytona until the 50th anniversary. Even then, I'm hoping for a nice green dial option and hoping like mad they DONT put a date on it... it would ruin it!! The best thing they can do if they want to do that is perhaps make a "Daytona 2" with the Date... Hang on,.. they could even call it a "Dateona",... either way, i'll be staying away. The whole appeal to me of the Daytona is the slim, ultra comfortable profile. If they chuck a date on it, all that will do is make it fatter and mess up the dial... oh, wait.. they will "supersize" it anyway right? Eeeeww |

A Daytona Date sounds interesting. That's been something I have dreamed possible. I suppose if that did happen Rolex might pull their usual trick and release only the 18K models this year with SS next year..
I suspect Rolex would make the Daytona Date in the same size case as that YMII to differentiate it sufficiently from the regular Daytona. The EXII release isn't a big surprise, but is it going to be just a white dial.....or might it be released in a matt black dial too Who knows

Just pulled the trigger for Deepsea instead of Daytona SS because the bigger size of Deepsea looks more appropriate on my wrist. If Rolex releases bigger version of Daytona, I'm gonna start saving now.

I don't need a Daytona with a date, although I think that it would be a big seller..
But I know that I would have to have (yes..I need it) a new Exp II... in black with an orange hand..........

Tudor Chrono has had a date forever so why not a Daytona II model and keep the original for the purists!

Kinda hate to see Rolex chase the size trend, they used to set the trend, not chase it. Gotta wonder what Hans Wilsdorf would do. I also wonder what he would have done about Quartz.

When I browse the web for vintage Rolex offerings, many of them are smaller than their modern counterparts. It's just natural progression. Rolex is just a bit more careful with size. |
