New dial/face issue w/dealer
My wife has a early 1980s Rolex Datejust. For our 10th anniversary, I thought I'd get her a diamond bezel. Our local dealer told us that Rolex no longer stocked diamond bezels for such an "old" watch. I next tried to purchase a diamond face (the jubilee). Again, we were told they were not available for such an old watch but I could trade it in (at a big loss) and buy a new watch. How about a mother of pearl face diamond face? uh, no, not for that old model. Can we do a champagne diamond face. Oh sure can. Oh wait, not in the dark champagne. We can get the light champagne. Can we see one? Well, we don't have one but if you don't like it (wait for it) we can let you, yes, trade up.
So, is this typical for Rolex - screwing around with their dealer, or is this the dealer who really want to sell a new watch? Thanks for the advice. |

The Dealer is simply a sales outlet....... it isn't "Rolex". If you don't like what they're saying, try another Dealer... there are plenty of them around.. Or call one of the Rolex Service Centers directly and see what they can fit to the model you have.
However... with the time, and the expense, of finding and fitting a diamond bezel, you could likely purchase a new Datejust with a diamond dial more cheaply... Aftermarket diamond bezels are as common as flies for a Ladies DJ... Look over the offerings at places like www.AlanFurman.com and others.......
