1967 Gmt Master

..my First Post: I Bought My First Rolex From An Ad In 1967. It Was A Gmt With The Standard Gmt Oyster Bracelet..i Still Have The Watch, Although I Haven't Worn It In Years. I've Had It Cleaned A Few Times, And Run It About Once A Month For A Couple Days..it Has No Replacement Parts....small Arrow..original {somewhat Faded} Bezel ...radium Markers And The Most Beautiful "complete Black" Dial Imaginable...my Question Is This: When Did Rolex Change From The " Absence Of Color" Total Black To The Gray Black Of Today? The Old Dark Black Was Far More Esthetically Pleasing.

On Another Subject...i've Seen Manual Daytonas On Ebay With "buy It Now Prices" For Around 50k Usd {stainless}..i Had Two..one Said Daytona And One, As I Recall, Said Cosmograph On The Dial..i Sold Them For 3k Usd Apiece In 1994 And Thought I Was Really Doing Myself A Favor....should I Be Crying Or Are These Ebay Prices A Farce..looks Like A Great Forum

Welcome to TRF, pal. Sorry, can't help you with your queries, but someone should be along shortly to answer them.

Meanwhile, if you could post some pics that would help.

Cheers - JJ

Hi, welcome!

If I understand correctly your GMT is one of the last to sport a small pointer hand and a gloss dial. May I ask, does your watch have gilt printing on the dial? Should look a golden color.
The general consesus is that Rolex switched from the gilt/gloss dial to the matt circa 1965-66 so yours is within the overlap timeframe.
If you could post the first three of the ser. no. we could date it fairly close.
As a circa 67 model your dial should say SWISS T<25 at the bottom. That's the legend for tritium. Dials of that era used tritium as an exciting agent in the paint matrix (radium was a bit earlier).

Now, if I may--get the watch serviced. It's way over due and should be done while parts for the 1575 movement are readily available. DO NOT allow the dial or hands to be changed!!!!! DO NOT send the watch to Rolex!!!!! They will change them out. Find a good watch maker with a parts account and have them do the work.
My guess is your watch has a 7602 revited bracelet if new from Rolex and never changed. If so the bracelet, unless totally shot is worth a bunch. I'd consider a more modern bracelet to wear.
If you still have the box and papers add more to the value.

Please post a pic of your watch and we can get closer on the details.
Congrats!!

I love the old GMT's. Please post some pictures.

Now regarding the Daytonas. YES you should be crying.

They are now commanding some pretty unbelievable prices. But if it's any consolation, US$3k back in 1994 was probably what they were worth then.

Don't look back OR you won't move forward.

BTW, if you want to sell the GMT, send me a PM.

John.

..Thanks mike...the dial does have the T25 . I always wondered what that meant..Had no idea it stood for tritium. The hands and markers are not really visible in the dark any more. The bracelet, which is not stretched or worn much, is rivited..The watch is currently 3000 miles away in a safe, so I can't provide a serial number and myself and the lowliest camera are complete strangers..As I recall, the AD showed me a milgauss, which he thought was the one to buy.. He was probably right.
