My 1st Rolex- (Hopefully)
So I have been working the past 10 yrs on getting my career to where I am now. I am pretty proud of myself and what better reward then a new Rolex. The one I am looking at is the Datejust II 116334sao. I am 31, no debt but dont own a house. I rent, no kids etc. I am getting some of the "hater/critics" that think a watch of this caliber is a waste of money blah blah blah. Just want to see if this is something that has happened to others out there with their 1st purchase. Any regrets? Not seeking approval just the reassurance that the value/ownership opinions I have read are legit. Looking at a March purchase! Any online pro's/con's and is it safe? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum
It shouldn't matter what other ppl say about the model you want...if you like it, then buy it Bought both of mine from the AD. Although not the cheapest option, I do have the peace of mine knowing its legit... No harm in checking out the for-sale section on this forum either. Good luck with the purchase! Remember to post pics

This is not for everyone, and it is alot of money. However it's your money and your the only one that can determine whether it is worth it or not.
I too have purchased mine from an AD as well. I do believe however the trusted sellers on this forum would make a safe bet. Take your time and look around, make sure whatever you decide that you have made the right decision for yourself.

Go for it, I used my first rolex for 10 years. It never skipped a beat, amazing watch. I am the type of person that likes to use things for a long time, such as Jeans, Boots, I like to nurture them :) Instead of buying many watches, I always think, just buy 1 good one. Go for it

Welcome!
A great way to reward yourself for your hard work.
It is something you can keep forever to remind yourself of your accomplishments. If buying online, I would check out some of the power sellers right here on TRF. Also, go to an AD to have fun trying on a bunch to see which one is right for you. Conrats on your soon to be first Rolex! Be sure to let us know what you decide.. |

My thinking was the same when I bought my GMTII in December. Quote:
I have received nothing but compliments on my chronometer. Of course what people really think may not be revealed to me. But my GMTII is for me, not them. No regrets for me! (apart from not being able to justify buying both the GMTII and the TT bluesy sub). Buy it now in case the price goes up! |

DateJust II, my first choice too! I'm waiting for my first Rolex ever to be delivered as we speak... The golden rule I have learned is NOT to listen to anyone but yourself. Buy that Rolex and enjoy it -- I know I will!

A couple things to keep in mind when it comes to a luxury item like a Rolex:
1. Sure it's a bit of money, but it is way cheaper than a house or fancy car. 2. I got my first Rolex (for a long, long time, my only) in 1973 and graduated college in 1974. When I graduated, I also bought a car-- 1974 Dodge Dart, quite the chick magnet. I recently gave the watch to a son, and it's still a beautiful watch. Where do you think the car is? 3. I paid $220 for the watch, a tt GMT, and $3,300 for the car. The watch is probably worth something close to the $3,300, and the car is long gone. 4. A Rolex isn't cheap, but it's a pretty affordable luxury that can really hold value. |

It was the hardest $5000 to get out of my hands. No joke. I could hardly justify the purchase. But once I got it.........best $5000 I ever spent!

Welcome to the forum. As everyone has mentioned here, if you like it, go or it! You will be the one wearing that beauty, not everyone else.
A LOT of people thought I was crazy when I got my first Rolex to celebrate my engineering degree, a 2T dajetust that I still keep (and absolutely love). I was 22 at the time, no job, no debt, so I sold all my 'college stuff' that I knew I would hardly use again and decided to go into the 'big leagues'. As my brothers told me, 'that watch is a statement of big leagues'! As far as where to buy, AD is a safe bet, but there are quite a few very reputable sellers here that can work with you (no need to say names, just read the threads!) Oh, and remember to post pics once you buy it!!! |

Some people are not watch people. Some people are not car people. I happen to be both and have no money! As far as an investment goes, it's hard to beat Rolex.

SOOOO true! My father keeps his two Rolex watches in a drawer next to coins, clips, receipts, wallet, etc. BUT his pen collection is in special cases/holders and are rarely used. To each, his own.

You will not regret picking up that DJ II and what anyone else thinks will mean nothing when it is on your wrist.

I echo what others are saying…it's your money, buy what your heart desires. A few years ago I was ridiculed by coworkers for spending $5K on a watch. Fast forward to today, a few of them have come to me seeking advice on their first big watch purchase.

It's your money. Do what you want with it as long as no one is negatively affected. Trusted sellers here are trusted for a reason.... you can trust them

Rolex will always be a safe bet. As a starter, go for a DJ as it's a classic watch. Later on you may want to try the other sportier model.

Don't worry about what other people think. As long as you're comfortable laying out that kind of scratch for a watch, go for it! As far as value goes, it's a great brand thats worth the price IMO. I've never once regretted buying a Rolex. I heard the word investment mentioned, but don't think of it in that context...there are a whole alot of better investment options out there compared to Rolex watches (but thats a whole different topic). Buy one because you like it and will enjoy wearing it. After all, thats what watches are for, right?
As far as buying online (or anywhere else for that matter), its like they say all the time on this forum....buy the seller. Now go out and get that watch, you won't be disappointed! |

I , like most here, echo the above. Though, I must say I purchase a lot of things.. I've purchased 3 Rolex watches. I was concerned up to point of sale for every single one.. I was worried and questioning myself during shipment or travel to AD.. The minute each one touched my wrist.. it all fades into a smile.
