Sea Dweller Bracelet Modification : )
Well, after some other post talking about how hard to get the SD to fit properly due to non-removable links on the 6 oclock side, I decided to check it out. Maybe should try and see if fits better or gives me options. On my Explorer II, it also has 5 fixed links on the 6 oclock side you can not remove.
So went to the Rolex Service Center here in KL. Not much help. Said they do not reccomend removing the links as that is the way the watch is. I said well how do people with much smaller wrist, which are many here in Asia, get the clasp to center then. They then finally said they could remove a link but it is very difficult, and wil take at least a week to do. The receptionist said I would have to try the RSC in Bangkok, since I am leaving KL on Sunday ( the KL RSC is closed on the weekends) so not enough time for them to do it for me. They were not very interested it seems. RSC said, "well most people just use the micro adjustments and do not care if the clasp is centered on thier wrist or not" So I then went bak to Hotel and called the AD I bought the watch from "The Hour Glass". They said they do not have the equipement to remove a link, but their main outlet at Lot 10 Shopping Complex does. They will call them and tell them I am coming. Great! So went to the other store. Took them about 15 minutes to remove a link from the 6 oclock side on my SD and Exp II both. They were very politeful and even offered me tea while I waited! They said they do this a lot, very common here in KL to make the watches fit correctly. I like the option, cause now I can screw a link back on the 6 oclock side to get original fit or remove one and have only 4 fixed links on the 6 oclock side. Work was done very well, no marks or anything. They said they have a special tool that does the cutting. Very efficient. Hour Glass is a great AD! Have given me great prices and service! |

I don't understand why Rolex doesn't just make the SeaDweller like this from the factory. Why not give people more choices???

Yeah, it does not make any sense why Rolex does not just have the first 3 links on each side fixed and all the others connected by the screws/pins.
Well, at least very easy to have the AD do, no charge at all! Yes, it is nice. I fyou have a smaller wrist will help to get proper fit, or if not smaller wirst, will gove you options to play around with the size. Even though my wrist is just under 7.5 inches, the way my wrist is shaped - it is actually fits better to put an extra link on the 12 oclock side and only have 4 fixed on the 6 oclock side. Micro adjustment is the second postion. |

I am in Malaysia. The Hour Glass ADs are the best. Very helpful and service oriented. Gave me good discounts, put up with me looking and fiddeling with the watch forever, offered me tea/sodas while evaluated watches, removing fixed links at no charge, etc...
Over in Asia, in general, I have found sales clerks to be more service oriented. Watches are also more popular over here. |
