an introduction
I am writing to introduce myself and to thank this forum for making my second introduction into the Rolex world interesting, informed, and appropriately priced.
My first experience with Rolex came about 5 years ago when my father retires. At that point my family pitched in to purchase him a gold Day-Date with blue stick dial as a retirement gift. After all, a gold watch is what you get someone as a retirement gift, right? At that time, I had little interest in watches personally..... Then came last March... I work for a large retailer that many of you know. At our annual manager's meeting, the most profitable managers received a stainless Datejust with oyster band, smooth bezel, and silver stick dial. The gentleman sitting next to me received one. However, he was not the most profitable manager in our region. You see, three weeks prior, he had been transferred to that store and I was transferred from it to run a more "challenged" one. This upset me, but i just congratulated him. You see, he DOES deserve it...I just deserved one too. About two months ago, a good friend mentioned he was going to buy a SubMariner. I went with him to the store. There I tried on a few Datejusts. I lusted after the Daytona's but i considered them to be too much money at that point. I narrowed down what i liked to two watches: one with a blue face and a two tone everrose with a black face. I really liked the two tone more, but i was concerned that i could not wear that "flashy" of a watch to work on a daily basis without: a) destroying it b) getting called out for being snooty. The decision point: I decided to walk away and to learn more about what i was considering purchasing. That naturally landed me here. After a week or so of reading i quickly picked up that there were a few sellers here that everyone trusted and who often posted great deals. I waited to see if something like my "wish list" above would be posted. All the while, I kept seeing a blue faced Air King get bumped from a seller named Kanger. Eventually, I just called him. We spoke and I bought the watch for 3 reasons: 1. I love the blue 2. The bezel is just too darned cool 3. I could wear it to work without fear of destruction or it being too flashy. I received the watch in exactly the condition promised and i was very happy. Then as I was perusing the site, David SW posted a two tone Daytona for a really fair price. It occurred to me that i realistically could have the AK an the Daytona for the price of the two tone Datejust above. I called David, but someone else got lucky that day. That watch was sold. On Wednesday I was on a business trip when i noticed that Mosco posted a TT Zenith Daytona. We spoke the next day. I am wearing that watch now. I now have one for work, and one for play. I find it amazong that I have two watches now that fit what i want for a VERY reasonable price. Additionally, I can attest to each of the above gentlemen as folks I would certainly deal with again. My wife asked me if i was concerned about the watches being fake. I explained that i was no more worried about these being fake than i am of the one i bought at an AD for my father years ago. I don't know how much i will contribute here as a TRF member. I'm not a watch fanatic. I spend my days working....either as a store manager, or building furniture like the one seen in my avatar. Still, i wanted to thank the group for helping me get informed and for helping me find honest, trustworthy folks to deal with. -Wayne |

You did quite well for yourself, I think. You benefited from the research you did, made some fine decisions, got exactly what you wanted, and saved some money to boot.
It is that process that hooks a lot of folks in my judgement. Now all you need to do is start flipping and you'll have been literally consumed by the bug.
