Trade Advice help
hey all, I recently purchased a 1985 datejust with blue face with diamonds and a silver and gold bracelet for $2750 ( way too much I know) But the seller told me I could return the watch for the full $2750 if I used it toward the purchase of another piece from him. The other watch is a 90s Submariner the black and gold combo. He wants 5k for it. Should I just eat the loss on the datejust or would buying the sub recoup some of my money?
Thanks in advance for your advice |

Why do yo assume that you paid too much? That's a reasonable price, depending on the condition of the 85 DJ. If it is in good shape (especially if it has a recent service) and the bracelet is good (important question), you have a heck of a watch. This thing could last you for decades.
If you really prefer the Sub, buy it, if you have the disposable $$'s. What is the age or serial number of the Sub? Also, that trade in deal is pretty decent of the seller. A lot of diamond dials are Rolex with added diamonds, but it doesn't mean it's junk. Can we see some pix of the DJ? Your watch is stainless and gold, rather than silver/gold. |

Pictures would be most helpful. I'm no expert, but that TT sub might be on the high side unless the condition is exceptional ... especially since he's dealing with you again.
What are you really after? Do you just want to take the TT sub because you see it as you only way out of the DJ? Or, is that really the watch you want. I ask because if your DJ is in good condition, you could sell it, add some cash and get the watch you really want from a trusted seller here. With $5k, you could land an excellent Sub SS 16610LN or LV (Maxi dial), GMT II, Explorer II and maybe even have money left over. |
