What do you call your watch on the US custom form?

I've got watch coming in from overseas, but I got a call from Fedex saying that I need give them a description of the package content so it can clear custom. This never happened to me before.

So what do I put? Watch? Timekeeping device?

Please write:

If it is a used watch ?
Replacement assembled watch parts

It has a meaning but also means nothing

Yeah, for some reason they didn't.

I don't really want to get into a bind with US Custom or the Stat tax collector...

I hesitate to say it Patrick, but only one thing comes to mind.
It's been flagged for inspection....

Normally, if no declaration has been issued, it will be returned to the shipper to complete the necessary documentation...

You are between a rock and hard place.

horological device or precision instrument.

even if you send it with insurance, you will be good since you're not lying about the contents on the box.

"USED".....

I also would recommend sending in crappy box, reflecting the value of package:) Also would suggest you use a box several times larger than item to mislead...

"For repair - to be returned" works. Then check the gift box.

I just went through this a month ago. Horological Instrument or Watch. Be aware that recent changes driven by homeland security and US customs means that if the declared value is more than $2500.00 the shipper must supply a "watch inventory" sheet. This document requires them to identify in detail the components of the instrument being imported i.e. "Case" stainless steel 912L, "Movement" 17 jewel, "bracelet" stainless steel, etc..... If they didn't supply this document with the shipment then you may have to get them to fill one in and send it to the carrier or you may be able to fill it in at this end. As the importer you may also be asked to fill in a document that will require you to supply your SIN. Good Luck

If it is from FEDEX, probably they just want to know exactly what is it to pay the custom charges and then pass that on to you. It looks like you will be paying duties for that..

I have used "Precision instrument" many times, never gone wrong.
If it is spareparts, I use "sparepart for precision instrument"

I donīt like it says "Rolex wristwatch", it could tempt the wrong people to steal it.
A precision instrument can be many things, so many may not be too empted to steal it.

If you mark it "Rolex" you don't have to worry about the wrong people stealing it but you can rest assured that customs will.

Not trying to get you scared but honestly I've heard horror stories about getting a Rolex through customs in the US, and I've always been told that the best way to transport it into the US is going over there yourself and wearing it back. Hope RUSA doesn't get involved. Good luck and keep us updated on the situation.
