Icon20 Speaking to Rolex Hq

Hi everyone,

Had a long conversation with my mate, who works at Rolex Hq ( west malling )
About the new watches for 2011.

He has told me that I will definitely want to purchase 2 new sports models, and possibly a 3rd.

So I had better get saving !!!

I'm surprised the YM clasp gets so much stick. Do you think that it's a contributing factor to its unpopularity. I own a YM and to be honest I don't see the clasp as a major issue. It seems fairly robust and has yet to fail.. fingers crossed.

Maybe I need to try a Daytona Clasp to see what I'm missing.

Nothing wrong with the classic clasp other than the price charged by Rolex would seemly warrant more substantial construction.

Once installed on one's wrist, there is no difference, other than weight, in the performance. Plus the classic clasp has a 50 year history of successful use.

My feeling is that if they change the clasp, they won't say a thing.. Clasps and bracelets are changed all the time and do not constitute a "new' unveiling...

Now, if they were to change it to the new block case and bring it in-line with it's sister Sub size, we will see it unveiled at Basel..........

I can imagine at least one Rolex Geneva factory staff being a member here and laughing his as. off reading all this .
Very few people and hardly none outside the Geneva "inner circle" know what will be unveiled at Basel . Let alone disclose any of it , even by hinting .

Or imagine a maxi case and dial Root Beer, with a cerachrom insert the brown colour of your arm after a week in the sun

That is funny because my friend who works at the HQ in Geneva told me I don't want to purchase any sport models.

Knowing (of) Mark's contacts at Rolex HQ I add more credence to his hints than others.

Personally though I'm not yet convinced of the bi-colour GMT but the ceramic non-date Sub' could be a go-er.

Have a hard time seeing Rolex release a Pepsi AND Expy II at the same time.

Last year we got two Subs an Expy I and new Dj dials...and Rolex yanked the Expy II.

These folks are in no hurry.

I think we'll only see the orange hand explorer. I don't think we're in for a a very exciting Basel this year.
