Submariner winding question..........

What is the proper way to wind an automatic watch if it is stopped. I currently own a TT Submariner and a Cartier roadster w/chrono. I have an autowinder but am not sure the correct winding procedure if it is ever stopped. I believe it is to pull the crown out to the first click and wind it in one direction, towards 12 o'clock about 25 times??????????????????
