I know I shouldn't buy a watch off of eBay but . . .
. . . I stumbled across this one and it is just so damned handsome!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MEBIDX:IT I admittedly know little about Datejusts. Can anyone with greater knowledge give me some feedback? Should I stay away? My concern, of course, relates primarily to authenticity. The watch will not likely sell for big money so I am willing to take a chance unless anyone sees any obvious problems. BTW, I realize that the case is pretty well polished and that's okay with me. Thanks guys! |

If you are in the US and bid and won this watch make sure the seller does not write the words ROLEX in the customs/invoice form. The watch will never be allowed entry to the US.
The DJ is the most common watch in the entire Rolex line. Every jeweler's shop that sells Rolex and even nicer pawn shops have at least a few DJ's in the show cases. You can always haggle and bargain with them. And of course check the FS section here too. Good Luck in your next purchase. |

As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you are probably not going to recruit too many new friends here by making such inappropriate remarks.

So ugly in fact, that I chucked it out in the snow. All that cheap 18k gold, who would want such an ugly thing? Going to get myself a new Citizen instead. |

I'm also going to buy a good digital camera, take photos of my Citizen and use it as my avatar! Thanks for the heads up TRF!

Nice watch.
That said, why take a chance on any ordinary Rolex. As imono said, try and find on locally. Good luck. |

I am no expert, but they certainly went to the trouble of posting a lot of good pictures. They don't seem to have anything to hide. |

No problem with the watch.
In fact it's a nice one as you say. I also really like those cigerette hands and large door stop markers. Just need to get it in the AS of A. |

Let's get one thing straight.
This is not an advertised priced but an auction price as it stands now with 2 days left of bidding. Rest assure that the seller (a dealer) will shill bid it up to what he wants for the watch before letting it go. And yes I agree, it's a nice looking watch and I would buy it in a heart beat for the current price. |

Sold for $3,550!!! Would have never guessed that in a million years. Unfortunately way more than I was willing to put down for a DJ!

Maybe. I personally think it's unlikely that he'd drive up the price over $3000 given that these typically sell for under $2000. My feeling is that someone really wanted this one, and was willing to pay a big premium to get it. Who knows.

As for the shill bidding, I guess that would be hard to prove right now. I'm curious what penalty he had to pay if he was shilling. I haven't sold anything on e-bay before so I'm not sure what percentage EBay is supposed to get from those fraudulent transactions. |

Let's review here,
1. "I know I shouldn't buy a watch off ebay, but..." 2. Item located in Korea 3. no papers, no box Nope, can't imagine how anything could go wrong with this deal. |

Be careful of this character. I bought a watch tfrom this guy after the initial buyer turned out to be a deadbeat.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...253D&viewitem= I paypalled him $1650 for the watch + shipping. Then came a delay "I'm out of town". Then he inexplicably refunded my money and told me he would be back in town in a few days and we would do the deal then. I emailed him several times and he never responded. So it's not a horrible story as the guy refunded my money, but...I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling after he refused to respond after the refund. Probably he made a better deal. But the lack of response is troubling. |

I was waiting for the backlash from the 'datejusts are ugly' comment. I think the watch was quite attractive though!
