How do I know if I have a quickset?

First off..it may be broken if it does in fact exist in this watch, so it's impossible for me to tell..

1977-78 Datejust #5208386, case 1603 cal. 1570(1575). ss w/slate blue dial.

Most people would say no based on the above info, but I have heard of rare instances of 1575 w/quickset.

It's a lovely old watch I just bought from an old friend. Keeps great time and in nice condition. He is pretty sure that it used to have a quickset feature but hasn't used the watch in many years and is not certain and thinks it may have broken.

Any way for me to look at the movement and be able to tell?

TIA

I believe it's a bit old for quickset. A watch tech can tell you pretty easily. If it is a quickset, you should be able to pull the crown out to two positions after unscrewing it. The step immediately after unwinding will allow you to manually wind the movement; an intermediate step lets you set the date without changing the time; and the fully extended step will set the time. If you can't find that intemediate step, you probably don't have a quickset.

Thanks everyone. I should have clarified this a bit. I was wondering if it being broken would make the intermediate (first) step position impossible to find?

The obvious (probably correct) answer is that it doesn't have QS. And MonBK, how did you determine this?

But my buddy is pretty insistent that it is... is there any tell tale sign outside the movement such as a pie pan dial? Is there an obvious thing to look for when the movement is visualized?

Thanks.

The QS was introduced about 10 years later than your friends watch.

Welcome to the forum.

The 1570/75 movement was never quickset. The quickset feature was introduce with the 3035 movement in about 1977..right about at the end of the production run of the 1570/5 series.

Thanks. That's what I had read and have been telling my friend. I just wanted confirmation from people who know more than I do.
cheers
