Trading my 16610 for 116610 all green...should I?

Hi all,

I have a 2003 16610 which the AD is paying me more for than when I purchased it from him - hard to resist.

He has a new 116610 green face/green bezel in for me to buy today if I like.

My questions are:

- What do you guys think of the green face/green bezel vs the new 116610 LN?

- Is the all green likely to remain in demand in years to come and retain it's value? i.e. in such a way that y 16610 has (and appreciated!)

Thanks,

im333

PS time is of the essence!

I prefer the maxi dial and the new case and bracelet/clasp are great, but I would only get a black dial.....but that is just me.

I think the new green LV is far superior to the previous LV - better bezel, bracelet and dial. No need to think twice, IMO, just go for it.

I'm sure a hell of a lot of people will disagree, but...

NO... Don't do it!

For me the Hulk is "off the moment". Everyone has seen it and thought "new and shiny, new and shiny!". I think the Black is classic Rolex and basically hasn't changed the look in over fifty years.

If you want the coolest watch of the moment, buy it. My worry is that is you start down that route, there will be a "cooler" watch released in a few years and you'll have to have that one.

If you want to collect, go for the LV. I
If you're only likely to have one or two watches, as it sounds like since you arent planing to keep the old one as well, stick with the LN.

Just my thoughts... What ever you do I hope it makes you smile!

Since you asked:

I would keep the 16610. It is such a wonderful classic, and I would (I hope you can too) add the 116610 LV and wear it as a very cool option to the lovely 16610.

If you still decide to flip the 16610 I would go for the black 116610, that I find more versatile than the green... but the green dial is very, very beautiful!

Good luck.

Let us know what you decide for, and ...

... welcome to TRF!

Best,

A

Welcome!!

I have not a single negative thing to say about the new LV. Far and away my favorite in the current proffesional lineup.
I have also owned the 116610LN but the green wins hands down.
I say go for it!!!

The all-green is a great look, but if it's the only Rolex you've got, I wouldn't do it. The green just isn't as versatile as others. It's hard to make it look a bit less casual. However, it's still a great looking watch.

I'd go for the LN over the LV.....

But if not..I'd keep your current 16610LV...just the right amount of green>

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the new Sub C. It is an amazing watch...although I agree with Dalip, I personally prefer the LN for everyday wear.

I had the LV for a couple of years, parted with it and picked up the LN about two months ago. I really prefer the new LN all things considered. I was little worried about the green dial being too bright but it actually looks black most of the time. The bracelet upgrade is a major deal for me and the case and bezel upgrades are nice to haves not need to haves for me.

I completely agree with Steve, the improvements are amazing.

Once you have the new Subs on your wrist, you will understand were all the hype is coming from, they can't be beat. Yes the old subs were great watches, but the new subs have set a completely new higher standard.

I say that the trade-in is entirely up to you if you like the Green Sub...

however, like most trade-ins, you would be ahead if you simply bought the C-LV outright and later, if you decide, you could sell the '03 Sub for about 4,500 to 5000 USD; perhaps more in the UK. You couldn't go wring with that choice...

Been to the AD.
Saw the LV and decided against it I'm afraid. Somehow the ceramic bezel didn't complement the gorgeous green-gold face enough.
They did though, have a DeepSea in the display.

I have a feeling this will be my next watch :)
Asked him to hold it for a few days whilst I make up my (confused) mind.

It has the (updated) ceramic bezel, 904L SS improved bracelet with SEL's and a Glidelock clasp unique to the sports lineup. It also has the chunkiness I wished my 16610 had when I first laid eyes on it on a friend's wrist....

Your thoughts on the DeepSea folks?

interesting turn of the event.

it depends on how much bigger you want over the 16610.

for me, the 116610 is just the right size for my 7.25" wrist. as much as i'd love a DSSD, it is just too tall for my liking (the diameter is fine).

how big is your wrist? have you tried it on for an extended period of time at the AD? can you handle the height and the weight?

Lots on the deep sea a few pages back.

I don't think it's versatile enough. Unless you can afford a different watch for every occasion (or unless you're a saturation diver) I'd give it a swerve!

Not for an extended period, but personally I love the look and feel on the wrist.
I'm about 6ft and have relatively large hands. I think I can pull it off.

I'm a big fan of ceramic bezels and the new bracelets, so I say yes, go for it if you think it fits your wrist.

I wouldnt, but I'm not you. I think they are neat, but mine would need a black bezel.

the improvements are GREAT!! BUT........ the 16610 is a classic and a sure to be investment quality watch!! think long terms.... and work hard to get the 116610LV in addition to the classic you already have!!

I'd trade it in for the LN. I love my LV, but am not fond of the LV-C.

I'd keep the older Sub and then save up for a newer model. This way you have more time to decide on which one to get!!!
