Anniversary subs more common?

I remember just a little while ago, as soon i'd receive the green bezel sub from Rolex, it was immediately sent to corporate office, and 'selected' customers were called to get the watch. Few weeks ago, I had one come in, and no one from downtown asked for, and what was most shocking is that the watch buyer called the next day saying we get to keep it in backstock and its free-for-all. Of course 'selected' customers could still be called, but if someone who never even shopped with us came in looking for it, it could be sold to him. Then, just few days ago, i looked at a purchase order and we got another one coming. just weird.

Hi Mate

I think the days of a "true icon" in watches are gone. Those watches that achieved such status have solidified their reign and the rest is just hype, which dies down after a while.

I think the green sub is great and has a very cool look, but i doubt it will achieve cult status. The whole notion of that term means that there are only one or two at that level. You cant have 20 watches at that level otherwise the notion and the value ascribed to that term becomes redundant.

My AD has had the same green LV in the display cabinet for months and months, prob a year now.

That's true, but it has just been more exclusive and rare a little while ago. The anniversary GMT i have yet to see in person.

Our AD has the anniversary GMT II, i believe the same logic applies here. When that watch came out, pics were plastered on the forum, people were itching to get one, but now the fever has gone down, we even have a fellow member selling his for a great price in favour of the plat ym.

New releases have a lot of hype, but they rarely cross over into the premium category.

My AD has had a Green Sub in the window for about a month now. No movement and really not much interest in it.
She said the younger crowd is going for the flashier blinged out models.

Yes, that is true. I just sold a Lady DateJust Karat in 18kw. People like the bling, they like for it to be noticed with a WOW, not just a 'cool'

The LV has never been a limited edition watch (as everyone should know by now).
There was a time when it was difficult to find, that was just because collectors and others wanted the LV but it was at that time available in a limited number (probably the same amount that is being produced today). Now that there are sufficient numbers in the market that have satisfied the initial demand and the notion of it being "exclusive", the supply is still there but the demand has waned.
It's just a demand and supply issue, but still a worthy watch, but all currently made watches are different than vintage pieces that are no longer made, in terms of supply and collectability.
You might add some clever marketing into the equation and some hype of exclusivity by retailers and the flow on effect that has in the general population, and if you are selling you can put a premium on almost anything.

Green & Gold is the GMT 18k anniversary, what's the go on that? It isn't a Sub, but it might fall into the same category

Chad it isn't as bad as all that, would you call the polished centre links "bling" or just "ka-boom" the Sub and the GMT are still as strong as they always were, just more accurate.

Used to be MEN wanted a watch they could take SCUBA diving, serve with them in the military, do extreme sports, take hunting, go on mountain expeditions, caving, etc..

Now men (lower case) want a watch they can take clubbing, play X box with, and do all their metrosexual lifestyle things with.

Yeah, I know. But, I see Rolex in the future going less and less tool watch and more and more Bling watch. And the prices keep going up and up, making it a pure luxury brand, rather than an expensive swiss made tool watch.

My AD gets 2 a year even now. They said that they are on a list to get more, but there seems to be some limitation on how many as compared to the regular ss sub.
