Sub 16618 vs GMT IIC 116718

I have been a member for some time but never posted. Reading posts daily I have learned a great deal about Rolex watches and value the opinions given by the members.

I have worn a two tone Date Just for 25 years and decided to upgrade to a gold model. I tried the Day Date and it felt too much like the Date Just. I tried the Day Date II and thought it looked out of proportion with the large bezel. I then began looking at sport watches and therein lies my dilemma. I like the Submariner with the (old, 16618) blue dial and bezel, but do not like the new blue of the Sub C. With a black dial and bezel, I like the GMT IIC better than the sub. I have located a BNIB blue submariner at one AD (basically new old stock). I have located a GMT IIC (116718) at another. Both will give the same percentage discount, so they are very close in price. I have to make a decision very soon as both are being held for me at the moment and I need to let the dealers know.

I would like your advice on whether to get the 16618 blue dial Sub or the 116718 black dial GMT, i.e. pros and cons for each.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The 16618 blue dial sub is no longer in production. The 116718 black dial GMT II is still being produced. They are both magnificent watches. I opted for the sub because it is no longer in production, even though I liked the GMT just as well. Go for what you lean toward.

I got rid of my sub and bought the GMT ll, it's a great watch. Both are nice, sometimes you have to go with what you like best.
