I've been to Hawaii many times. I never tire of it, instant relaxation. I think it's the psychological association of going to a small island thousands of miles from the mainland. I'm not sure what shopping she wants to do, but there's no shortage of opportunities in HI to separate your lady from her $$.
My favorite hotel on Oahu is the Halekulani. Nice resort, great service, not too big, unbeatable location on Waikiki, and perfect views. NY is fine too, but you won't get your relaxation requirement there.

Why would you even ask this? It's like should I go to a nice beach resort or a landfill?

I hav eto side with Hawaii. I live in NYC and love the city and can see why you would want to come but NYC is not the most relaxing city. Great for shopping though.

Apples and oranges. You can't compare the two IMHO. You need to decide what you want out of the trip. However, unless you're on the west coast, I'd take the Caribbean over Hawaii in a heartbeat.

Go to Oahu and you can relax and shop. Every high end boutique you could want is there, for men and women.

Hawaii - no doubt. Stay in Waikiki (Kahala Mandarin Oriental - hands down best hotel there) and you'll be able to scratch the shopping itch as well. Like Howard said - every high-end boutique is there.

Maui is good for some shopping, there are a couple AD's there, and there is little traffic. You can chill. I can give you a condo suggestion, we've stayed there twice in the past couple years. The owners live in canada. Maui is a lot like california so if you are looking for exotic maybe try Kauai. NYC would be expensive but would be nice.

As others have said....apples/oranges.
For me... live on the beach/in the ocean most of the time... so: NYC would be great because of the culture it offers....just awesome IMO. Not been to Hawaii... so that would be definitely be a major draw....but other similar holiday destinations may come first I think.

Lots of shopping here is Hawaii but it’s the expensive kind. There are great deals to be found in NYC on designer items but here you will pay full price for just about everything maybe even a little more especially in tourist areas we like to call it a “Paradise tax.”

TNC....when are you planning to take your holiday?
I love NYC....but not in the summer............even w/ the fab shopping, theater, Yankees baseball & food. I recommend Kauai if you go in the summer.....the north shore, Hanalei & Princeville. NYC now is nice, not hot yet.....the best shopping in the USA is in Manhattan.....even better than Beverly Hills, South Coast Plaza or Union Square here in Calif. Kauai has the most beaches per coastline than the other Hawaiian islands....it's the oldest, 1st settled by Polynesians.......locals are very nice....locals are very nice in both places.....tough choice.

One other suggestion, perhaps? Carmel, CA Shopping in a village atmosphere (but lots of high end), beach, and one of the most romantic places you'll ever go. Tough call. Both Hawaii & NYC are really fun destinations.

Hawaii is a great place to vacation in the summer. VRBO.com is usually where we reserve a house for a week for the family on North Shore. Be sure to rent a car and enjoy the island.
Good luck vacation shopping. |

I just got back from Waikiki. TONS OF SHOPPING!! And more high end watch stores in one area than I have EVER SEEN.
The Rainbow Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel is awesome IMO.
