The wait is over for the Daytona SS but how much ??
I just got a call from my local AD whom I have been on the SS Daytona waiting list for 3 years. Finally the wait is over but the bad news is the price has jumped to a whopping £7000 !!
Question is do I buy ? Is there an market to still sell for a quick profit ? It's a black face one and ideally I prefer white but both are gorgeous. The other twist is that I have a relative going back home abroad who is back in the countryin avew weeks so there is a possibilty of claiming back VAT. Has anyone claimed back VAT from UK costoms ? |

no sober person will but it from you for that much money in the 2nd hand market.
Buy because you like it. Depending on what part of the world u are in the wait is over, especially in the N.America....Europe, the Middle East, Asia....not so much.

I would buy it if I wanted it, not so sure the market exists to make a quick profit or not.

A lot of $$ for a watch but i guess it's all relative to your personal circumstances. What was the original quoted price from your AD?
Btw, I could have picked up a 4 yr D Serial never worn for only A$10,000. I think the secondary market for these SS Daytona have come down somewhat. |

A famous dealer in the north east would offer you £300 under list price for it!

Don't buy if you're only going to flip it. Waste of time, the second hand market is pretty much static for Daytonas right now. Buy it if you actually want the watch, and not its hype

- NO. - Yes, I have. It's a tremendous PIA and you can save money a lot easier on a Rolex than waiting to go through the bureaucracy of getting money back for the VAT. |

I've seen many for sale here by some of the good guys in TRF as of late. If you really want one, get it from one of these guys!

Those days of flipping them for a profit is long gone! Once they hit $10K list they lost the quick profit margin of selling them for $10K when you bought them at list for under $10K.

I say pass on it.............
Let the next guy on the lists have it as he may actually want the watch to wear and enjoy, which should be the point...

SOLID... I would say the same. If this is a watch you want to wear and enjoy grab it. If you prefer the white dial then I would hold off for that or wait for the ceramic Daytona, Hell you have already waited 3 years what is a bit more

Unless you are buying the watch at cost from the AD, flipping it in the preowned market will not necessary net you a profit.
Just buy what you like.

It is clear you wanted this watch due to its difficulty to acquire and not to own, wear and enjoy. If your intent all along was to flip for a profit, I would walk and not purchase it. You won't make any $. Allow someone on the list to buy it who is going to enjoy it as their own.
Now, if you like the watch to own and wear, you should jump on it and enjoy it. Let us know what decision you make. Quote:

I bought my white dial when the list was $7900. I could have flipped it back then for close to $10,000 I guess. No way I was going to. It is an awesome watch. |

&K, certainly not for the faint hearted. Think it's definitely on the high side if you plan to flip and make decent profit vs effort/risk considerations...

I love the Daytona which is the reason
why I put myself on a waiting list, the last thing I want to do is to sell it but given my economic circumstances knowing there is an option is a comfort to me going ahead with what is to me a big extravagence.

Surely you must have known about the price increases since your intial order and therefore known what you would have to pay? If you liked the Daytona enough to order one then you must want to own one otherwise why bother?

Exactly...why wait on a waiting list for 3 years when your first thought is "Is there a market to sell for a quick profit?"
