"Rolex Never Made Quartz Watches"

Hi Everyone,

Getting closer to choosing and purchasing my first Rolex, and the information I'm getting in the forum is outstanding...I'm so glad I became a member!

Here's what I think is a fake ladies Rolex quartz date, and I'd like your opinions.

I found this about 5 years ago on the edge of a highway. It appeared that a car tire may have hit the band and flipped the watch over, breaking the crystal into several pieces, and causing the damage to the band that you see in the pics.

I took it to a local jeweler for his opinion. He took one glance and said "Fake!" He then told me that Rolex had never made quartz watches!! Some jeweler!

Anyway, I thought I'd check the forum members opinions. As I said, I think this is a knock-off, but would like the opinions of you experts before it goes into the trash. Sorry about the quality of the pics.

Thanks for the warm welcomes I've received since becoming a member!

Larry G.

Sky, Being a newbie and wanting to learn....what immediately raised the red flag for you in your opinion, again keeping in mind that I thought it was a fake from the beginning, but being a beginner, I don't know exactly how I formed my own opinion.

OK im a complete rolex newbie and I could be 100% wrong but heres what makes me think this is a complete fake.

1. Huge crown.
2. No cyclops.
3. Crown on bracelet doesnt look right.
4. Font on dial does not look right.
5. Stainless steel on clasp looks wrong.

Like someone said, we know Rolex made a quartz but this isn't it. The case and bracelet aren't from an oyster quartz.

It has several things that would lead my non-expert eye to believe it is a fake, but before you trash it, open the back and share a photo of the movement. That will get you a 100% answer.

The crystal is missing...it had broken into several pieces, and I didn't examine it closely.

I'm learning already, britincali...the crown appeared large to me as well!

I thank you for the information!

I'd love to do just that, David...don't have a tool for the job. I'd like to see the movement as well, might make a good picture for spotting fakes.

Rolez OysterQuartz watches used an integrated case and bracelet. Below are examples of SS, TT and all gold versions. Also, Oysterquartz bracelet types are shown. What you have posted is not of Rolex manufacture.

Do the Rolex quartz watches have a sweep second hand or does the second hand jolt from one second to another like any other dollar store quartz watch?

Its a fake. They did make quartz watches, just not ladies quartz !! Also a ladies Oyster case would have been engraved on the caseback. The Swiss Made on the dial is not in the correct place, no cyclops etc. etc. The Clasp is completely wrong as is the bracelet.
