Shipping from US to Canada

If one of the TRF sellers ship from US to a Canada address , is there duty / tax payble in Canada ?

Does the NAFTA agreement mean there is no additional charges ( similar to shipping within the EU ) ,or is there additional charges to consider ?

I am more interested in shipping with full disclosure and 100% above board amd legal.

NAFTA only applies to manufacturers. You would need to pay applicable duties and taxes if you can even ship a Rolex across countrie boundaries..

I know that you cannot legally ship a Rolex into the USA (Trademark Laws), but am not sure about to Canada..

I don't believe there are any legal issues with shipping a rolex into Canada, unlike into the us. However nafta rules would not apply since the watch is manufactured outside of north America. Tax, duty, an usually a brokerage fee ( often up to $50) for the company administering the tax and duty collection on behalf of the government ) are usually payable. Ironically sometimes parcels shipped by USPS wih full disclosure get through. Make sure it is insured for full value though.

Be careful to read the "fine print" on the insurance rules if you ship via USPS. USPS will sell you insurance for a large amount, but their fine print reads that jewellry/watches can only be insured up to a certain value when shipping to Canada. Even if you buy the correct amount of insurance, if the watch goes missing, you will only be covered up to the maximum amount allowed (which is probably less than what the watch is worth).

FedEx and UPS are other options, but they charge a massive brokerage fee to the buyer when it enters the country. I once paid $50 in brokerage on a $150 watch, that wasn't including the sales tax and duty taxes.

Correct.
There are no legal problems to import a Rolex into Canada, but Duties,Taxes and fees will be tagged to the parcel upon pickup!

Looks like the only way to get the "good" US prices is to fly in for a few days , do the shopping and head back home.

With some special ticket prices / especially out of season it may well be a free holiday

Applicable Duty (generally 5%) + HST (gst+pst) 5% to 13% depending on the province is payable upon receipt of the package. Sometimes they slip through and you are not charged anything even if you declare but be prepared to pay if you have declared the value

I know it's none of my concern, but to the OP: aren't you from Austria? I mean, getting it from the US to the EU is MUCH easier!

Yep , living in Austria now. Got a cousin in Canada who is coming to visit soon.

Importing to Eu costs +25% ( VAT and duties etc) , which takes the edge of US prices. Since she is coming I thought I could score.... no such chance.

BTW , its not just a watch I am after but a few high $$ items which adds up.

Fair enough. I live in Europe now and have family in Canada, so I totally understand your situation. I did, however, buy Rolexes from the US and I bypassed the Canada circus.
