laser welding / fill longevity
i've heard of laser welding/microfill of watch cases for bad dings in order not to lose metal.
don't these types of fills/welds break down/show up differentially over time? |

how do you know the welder/filler uses the same grade of raw material as rolex? does rolex provide raw steel/gold to its authorized repairers?

I suspect the stainless steel is easily mixed by those in the know. if im not wrong, it wouldnt be smart to mix metals as they can have adverse affects.
When done well, laser welding is a very good form of welding that will provide almost seamless welds; combined with a good polish and it should look pretty stock.

Another vote for Bob Ridley. There is a post here showing before and after pics of a deep case gouge.

i saw the gouge fill and polish on that gmt...great job. but i wonder how he would do on a white gold day/date since the material is key-- would he use rolex white gold (if they even provide this) or some other form which i fear would look different over time
