DSSD or new Exp II?
Given the choice what would you choose? I already own a DSSD but am considering flipping it when the new Explorers come out. Unfortunately I can't own both so if I want the new Exp II the DSSD has to go. I was pretty set on moving the DSSD on but now am not sure. I'm sure once the "newness" of the Exp II has worn off it will be just a run of the mill watch, whereas the DSSD will seem a bit more specialist and probably more rare.
I know it's my choice but wondered what you guys would do...flip the DSSD or keep it? Cheers Mike |

You will know for sure once you have had the opportunity to try the new EXPII on.

Since NONE of us have actually worn the 42mm EXPII - you are asking a question which can not be answered....

I must admit I've never been an Explorer fan but that not withstanding, the DSSD is really a watch like no other.
It's not everything to everybody, but it would be my last watch to go. Deacon |

IMHO I would not flip the DSSD... I think you are correct in saying once the newness does wear off which it will you will still have a Rolex and will have lost $$ on the flip/trade.
I would however hold off on this only because as mentioned none of us have seen (in the flesh) the new EXP II or tried one on and once this happens all common sense may let loose and we will all tell you to flip away I would certainly give it about a year as with any new release there will be premium pricing as well

I had the DSSD and let it go...it was too chunky on my wrist.... I'll take the new Explorer II all day long. |

I would say flip it for the new EXP II. It seems your unhappy with the DSSD.

Well, can't do much until you have a) actually seen and tried the new ExpII and b) made sure you can get your hands on one, but having said that, I fully expect the new ExpII will be the watch to have/use as an everyday piece.

I have a DSSD and also like the look of the new Ex... But I would never trade my DSSD in for it. Just my .02

Would not trade it. I would try to fund the Exp some other way.

As much as I like the look of the new EXP II, a trade for the DSSD doesn't seem like a good choice...
However, it's your watch, what makes you the happiest is the way to go! Best of luck on your choice!

I'm wearing it right now and no you don't have to be a lineman. You just have to be a man and not whine that it's too "top heavy" or the bracelet is "too tapered". Man, people just b@#$ and whine about dumb stuff. DSSD owners like myself don't want to hear grown men crying over grammar school nonsense, and we specially don't like our watch being insulted. What it all boils down to is the Rolex Deepsea is a man's man watch. If you can't wear it, then stick with the little 39mm watches.

I have to agree i think it may be more the depth than the circumference plus to much going on the dial and rings for my liking. Are dying to see the EXP II up close and see if i'd hate that oversized orange hand as much as i think i would.

I have never really thought about the Explorer as a watch I'd like to add to my collection. However, this new Explorer II is very nice indeed. I can't wait to see one. I think it could be my next Rolex.
I wouldn't swap my Deepsea for an Explorer II but I can definately see the appeal. As many have already said, try the watch on, take your Deepsea with you and put them next to each other...you will know which one. Good luck. |

In any case, I'm certain of two things: 1) I am not an NFL lineman. 2) If the DSSD and other large watches are out of style 20 years from now, I'll still be wearing mine. |

but not in a bad way DSSD is in a league of its own, comparing it to the Exp II is (i believe) basically an apples to oranges scenario? also hard to factor in the brand new excitement quotient of a watch that hasn't even been made available yet... perhaps Exp II desire may fizzle once its been out for a while. then as a previous post stated you'll be out a chunk of change and wanting your DSSD again. Re: DSSD is it big, of course it is! i don't think i could wear it without it constantly reminding me of its presence. Perhaps that is exactly what a watch should do for some, but not for me? that said it is a magnificent looking watch and again in a league of its own. PS thank you JJ for offering facts and rational dialogue here. DSSD=18mm=BIG. and god speed to your recovery!
