the perfect starter.....

seems like many of us pay more attention to the oyster professional watches.....

just would like to share my thoughts on the very affordable and yet classic oyster date....

with most dealers selling this at around sgd1500, it makes perfect sense for someone who aspires to own a rolex to grab this and experience what a rolex is all about...

Congrats on the watch. It's in great condition.

These 6694's were real workhorse Rolexes. They will go forever and ever.

The only painful thing is that you have too wind it everyday. Not a big problem though, it makes you feel that you have some input.

Wear it in good health.

John.

you can visit some of the preowned stores at golden landmark....precision time offers competitive prices....

there is also one shop in peninsular plaza.....not too sure isit on the 3rd floor ...

ultimately the condition of the watch will determine its selling price but i dun think anyone shd pay more than 2k for a 6694...

an early mode comes with the light-weight folded oyster bracelet...

pls dun confuse the 6694 "oyster date" with the 1500 which is a "oyster perpetual date".......which is automatic...the 1500 is being traded at higher prices...

I had a near mint pre-owned black dial. Sold it very quickly since I don't wear it often which makes the non-quickset date a hassle.

In its heydays in the 1970s the 6694 sells for less than 1000 local currency (USD1 = RM3.50).

The bargains are still out there....

I just picked up this near perfect 6694, albeit on strap not bracelet, for under $650.00. I haven't had to set it in 3+ weeks its keeping incredibly good time.

You are right. I got it confused with the 1500.
I think why people in general go for the professional series is because of the advertising. When people go to the Rolex webpage, the intention of the company is to draw their attention to the "9 extraordinary watches" and not to the older series. Look at the Pepsi GMT which is among the fav for a number of the forum guys. It is not in the website for a long time already. So is the no date sub. Ultimately it boils to advertising.
