Does a Daytona explode if you hit the reset button while the stopwatch is running?

I heard this from a rep at my local AD . Is this true ?

I hate to have shrapnel and pieces of metal in my eyes and face.

Or what does actually happen ?

Does the watch get damaged? Do you get a " You Fail " postcard from Rolex Co?

I dont know what to say here. To think that Rolex will mass produce a watch that harms people if used incorrectly and sell it knowing this.

If you do press the reset button while stopwatch is running, it can cause damage to the chrono. Thats all. It will be costly to fix.

Id love to see the kind of lawsuit rolex would get into if someone ends up with a seconds hand in their eye. I guess AD's never run out of interesting stories

I went outside and tried it... This is what happened... The watch made it fine but not so much the car that was driving by when I hit the reset button...
Reset while the stopwatch is running at your own risk!

Depends, will you be in a pool when you push the buttons?

Could be a nice way to go out in a blaze of glory, though (and a little style to boot). Give it a try, ok? But remember, pics or didn't happen.

Many people have actually lost their hand doing this. Please be advised. It's in the manual and the warning stickers should be taken seriously.

I was once told by an AD that pushing the stopwatch buttons, when the watch was not wound, could cause damage. I was told this as she snapped the watch from my hands, when I started to unscrew the pushers. No idea if it's true or not, but the way she said it to me was in a "you're so f-ing stupid" voice. She very much conveyed the "I don't want to be helping you" message and she got her wish, as I left the store shortly thereafter, without purchasing.

I believe that mechanical things have an order of operations.
Start the stopwatch.
Stop the stopwatch
Reset

IMO, to do otherwise is akin to grinding gears in a transmission without clutching.
I could be wrong but hey, it's your watch. Do what you want.

It depends on the tension of the mainspring at the moment. If not very tense you will hear a click and the hands will jump to 08.20 showing their disagreement.
But if the mainspring is full tensed then the crown-wheel will spin and make a hole through the back case and will injury your scaphoid. In some cases the balance bridge will cut the cephalic vein and the small screws have been described to cause pulmonary embolism.
The exploding of the crystal however has shown some advantages, as in some people the date magnifier will act as a contact lens in the affected eye.

Hope this helps!

that is just awful and dangerous! an exploding watch, i would never have believed the board of standards would allow such a thing.

for the safety of the children everywhere, all Daytonas (especially the PN's) should be immediately surrendered to the appropriate address for your area, bomb specialists are standing by.

pm me & i will forward address according to your zipcode.

good work chuck norris!

i was told by an AD that rolex sports models, like all the others in the range- shouldn't really be used in water. they are dress watches that are not for swimming in. "not even the sea-dweller?" i asked..NO she said. "they are not properly waterpoofed, its more a gimmick, they are dress watches."

..i laughed and left.

No, but quite a few Rolex customers spontaneously combust right there at the sales counter, once they receive BS such as this.

I really hope that person working at the AD was either messing with you or really new on the floor and was making something up.

I will say good help is hard to find despite the rise on the un-employment rate!
What city and state did this happen in?

I was kind of hoping to find a photo shop job by Jocke showing what the exploded Daytona looks like.
