Hey, Rolex.........I've run out of ideas!!
Hi guys,
How's everyone? I'm fine and still fighting!! Anyway, back to topic. Here goes...... During the last few years, Rolex have spent a great deal of time, technology and development in improving virutally all of their models. The Air-Kings and OPs were modified. The DJs and DDs were boosted up to 41 mm with better movements and bracelets - although the 36 mm models still continue to be very popular. The Milguass was given a new lease of life and the GMT-II, as you all know, came up aces with the introduction of the new ceramic model. The YM was complicated up to the YM-II which really didn't turn out to be everyone's cuppa tea, while the Sub-dates were all classed up with better bracelets, larger cases and maxi dials. The SD was engineered even further into the technological marvel, the DSSD!! Rolex didn't have a clue as to what they should do with the Daytona, so they blinged it up to a new Rose Gold model and wrapped a stunning brown leather strap around it. Finally, when the Rolex guys were clearly running out of ideas, they got hold of the skinny Exp-II by the scruff of its neck and came up with one of the most stunning models at Basel 2011!! So the only model left unscathe and untouched is the older no-date Sub which still continues to rule with most watch lovers. Should Rolex do anything to that watch? I don't think so. Which leaves all of us asking the 64,000 Dollar question!! What can Rolex come up at Basel 2012??? Yes, they do have plenty of "ice" and gold in their foundry and they could continue to bling up their DJ models, even the 34 mm not-so-popular ones. Anything else? I've tried to put myself in Rolex's shoes. All of the above watches have been so superbly modified that I see no more room for improvement. Rolex think-tanks have a lot to think about and get their grey cells into action. I, for the life of me, cannot conjure up anything new from Rolex. Cheers and love ya all - JJ

The 14060M will, in my opinion, see an upgrade. Even though some collectors might not like it, that didn't stop Rolex from changing the look of the 16610, and I don't see it stopping them here. I would expect to see it in '12.

Maybe they will update the 14060M w/SEL and the Glidelock clasp. Keeping the Lug Holes!
Nice to hear from you JJ.

I think they will change the sub(14060) to a subc without a date.
Plus there is always the thought of a daytona with a date. New colours of ceramic bezels? Cheers JJ! |

I still think an updated Daytona model (slighly larger case) is coming at some point. While I believe it should stay as is (in terms of size)...I think the change is coming.

This year, the new Exp-II was their only REAL modification. Blinging up a Daytona to RG on a brown leather strap is no big deal. And carving out beautiful dials on their 34 mm DJs is just another form of art. Realistically, Rolex have nothing more to do with their fully modified existing range, unless they can come up a completely NEW model. JJ

After all, it's a much loved watch and, in all fairness to smaller-wristed customers, 40 mm is the perfect size. JJ

Yes, like I said, just my opinion
However, a new model could be possible, but to guess what it would be seems nearly impossible without some rumour to start it up. Could be anything from a Daytona-ii (which BTW I think could use a new bezel, I've never been a fan) to a totally new model. Who knows... Quote:

Great to hear from you. My opinion for the no-date Sub is the same as what I say for the 16610. No maxi anything!! New bracelet, parachrome (sp?), blue lume, and AR under the cylops for the 16610 - I say YES!!. Again, it is great hearing from you. Hang in there my Buddy!

I would like to see a upgraded bracelet in the Platinum/SS yachtmaster. I havent been hanging out here in a while so maybe y'all have already discussed this recently or know something I don't. I'd sure be a buyer if they upgraded it.

JJ--Great to see you! I think we will see a few more retro introductions--I think the move towards bigger and ceramic is upon us whether we like it or not! Interestingly enough-to me also-the new orange hand Exp II was my favorite of the new releases. Again--I think we will see more retro releases and they will do well. Keep up the good fight my friend! Best--Ken

Milgauss with a rotating bezel would be nice, like the old days...
Milgauss in gold or TT? Why not?... Yachtmasters with ceramic bezels are probably not out of the question... SS Yachtmaster II might be in the works... GMT with white dial?... Moon phase would be nice... |

Very true statement. The 2 watches I wear have that same clasp. I just really like the new ones! But, then again...if it ain't broke dont fix it! How about a jubilee on the DJII, think that will ever happen?

Good to hear from you JJ!
It's just a matter of time before they slap a ceramic bezel on the 14060. |

Hiya from a newbie, JJ
I have a 31mm DateJust but wish for one slightly bigger, but not as masculine as the 36mm. My dream is a DateJust in 33-34mm. Of course there's the Date at 34mm, but it's far more limited than the DJ in dials and bracelet. Since Rolex is catering to women in recent designs, why not rethink their midsize offerings to expand on the classic DJ, I say. |
