First rolex

Big hi to everybody! I have already decided to get a submariner(pre-owned) as my first rolex, but i was wondering what series would be better for keeping(more timeless)? With lug holes or without? And should i get a piece with chapter ring or without? Thanks!

I am with Tony on this one, newer is better IMO but many will disagree

x2

But a few other thoughts to throw into the mix, lug holes some find more easy if your a Nato fan and change bracelet/bands often. Over 5 years old and you "should" factor in a service, think about adding an extra ~$500.00 to whatever your purchase price was. If you just plan on desk diving and getting caught in a rainstorm then feel free to roll the dice and get it serviced whenever

Oh yea changing straps would be way more convenient with the lug holes, however some ppl find it an eyesore. Most probably i'll be getting 1 without cos i just love the whole thing in its original state+original bracelet!! Besides, i don't think i'd dare to mess around with it often since its gona be my first "expensive" watch. For the servicing part I'll definitely take note when was the last time it was serviced and take the fee into consideration!!

All Submariners have lug holes..

The Sub Date does not (since ~2003)

Just bought a 'D' series subdate! Bought it frm a 2nd hand dealer who used to work in RSC for 10+years so its serviced and polished, and in perfect condition!!

This is my simple opinion, and many other members will have different opinions .... To me, the lug holes are better .. The age just goes to show how perfect Rolex is, and how they are built to last forever

I would definitely go with lug holes--the newest one you can find with holes would be a great pickup. If it hasn't been serviced, it would definitely be time--and when it came back it would be just like brand new!

Yea just got that, a 'D' series subdate in perfect condition(serviced+polished). Understand where the lug holes fever comin frm tho, simply cos its original and 'tool-like', but i personally feel no lug-hole versions look better.
