Euros to Dollars - Rolex at the Frankfurt Airport

I'm sitting in the United Red Carpet Club at the Frankfurt Airport. Not nearly as good as the Lufthansa lounge I was in on the outbound segment. Anyway, I was shopping at the airport stores and was amazed that the Rolex prices seem to be based on a 1:1 dollar to euro exchange rate.

The gray roman numeral with jubilee bracelet that I bought for my wife for around $5,400 is 5,700 euros. My TT Sub with blue bezel and slate Serti dial that set me back about $9,700 is 8,400 euros. Considering that the official exchange rate is 1.45 dollars to the Euro, it seems that Rolex watches are roughly 40% higher in Germany - at least at the airport.

Perhaps we should set up a sticky thread with worldwide AD prices of maybe 6 representative models?

So if you paid that 5700 euro for your wifes watch; you would have spent $7665.00USD.

Quite a mark up. Clearly the airport is not the place to buy fine jewelry, although the mark-up at Starbucks is probably greater.

Here is a handy conversion site.

Not all the same, I was looking at prices for the ExpII recently and Schipol airport was €3600 compared to $5000 US, so it was cheaper in Amsterdam !

That said on a trip to Paris, an ExpII was €4300

I also looked in SA a while back and it was more expensive.

Pays to shop around it seems.

Prices in Greece:
SS sub date : 4800 euros
TT sub : 7250 euros
LV : 5100 euros
SS gmt : 4750 euros

Too high, I know...However, almost every dealer will give you 20-25% off retail (except for the LV probably)

Airport prices are usually high than stand alone stores elsewhere. Can you imagine the rents the airports charge!!!!

Also, people tend to pay more when they have a short amount time and can't leave the terminal.

Where is the Red Carpet Club at FRA? I was just through there two weeks ago and didn't see it. And I've got to go back through there on Thursday coming.

Red Carpet Club is just past security in the terminal wing with gate C9. From the main terminal area (where the Goethe shopping zone is), follow the signs to the Air Train and keep going past it with the steps up to it on your left. Just keep going and going and there will be a (usually long...) security line. Go through security and hang a right to the RCC.

Ah, that's why I missed it. I didn't go far enough. I only got to C2 last time. Thanks, Ron.
