Finally, my very own SS Sub
Hi guys,
I know you must have seen the watch a zillion times but being a proud owner of this new SS Sub I can't help sharing these pics with you. It took me a bit of effort and time to acquire this piece. I spent a few months hunting for a 16610 but it seemed to be a rarity in my part of the world, or maybe I was looking at the wrong places. I even placed myself in the ADs' so called wait list for this watch but to no avail. I must have been very far down the list. Then one fine day as I was walking past my favourite Rolex AD, I had a sudden urge to pay the manager a courtesy call. I swear I had no intention of buying another Rolex at that time. Then during the course of a casual conversation I asked him about the SS Sub wait list. He smiled, walked into the back of his office and returned promptly with a spanking Z-series 16610. He said it had arrived as part of Rolex's regular shipment the day before. I could not believe my ears when he offered to let me buy it on the spot. Unfortunately he was only able to offer me a token acccommodation (his term for discount, which he says does not apply to Rolex). So out came my credit card, and I became a proud owner of the SS Sub. This watch is simply stunning and now I can truly appreciate why the SS Sub has been accorded cult status amongst Rolex enthusiasts. Even though I only own the modern incarnation of the legendary watch, and not one of the much sought after vintage models, it still feels wonderful to be able to own and appreciate this classic watch, the father of all modern dive watches. And I really have to thank you guys for introducing me to this intoxicating adventure. |

Thanks Mike.
Coming from a lensmaster like you , that's a real compliment. I have always greatly admired your great collection of vintage Rolexes and I can't even hope to begin a vintage sub collection like yours. |

Forgot to post about the Rolex anchor
I forgot to mention about a small little accessory that came with this watch.
When I made the purchase I knew that Rolex stopped issuing the famous Anchors with the Submariners back in 2005. However I pretended to be ignorant of this fact and simply asked the AD about the anchor. As expected he informed me that the Z-series Subs no longer came with Anchors. Then he excused himself and came back with a small package in his hands. I was very pleasantly surprised when he presented me with an Anchor, from his personal collection. Anyway I'm just grateful to have received this small trinket with my Sub. Small things like this makes the purchase worthwhile and memorable. |
