DLC/PVD Coated Rolex. Thoughts? Pics?

Hey guys. I'm considering a DLC/PVD explorer II like the one pictured. Any thoughts? Is it a good idea? Any current owners?

The best place to get done by all accounts is blackout concept. Email [email protected]. I recently enquirer about getting my brothers 14060 done for his 30th. But when the quote came back at 3500 euro I declined. Thought it easier to just buy one already done. My personal favourite is the so called Oreo Cookie Explorer II.

To each his own I suppose, but I personally hate seeing great watches turned into this.

I've seen them done by Pro Hunter and Project X, but not sure it's an 'improvement' on the original.

That being said, I have a friend who owns a YM that was especially done for the 'Brioni Polo Team' for the winter polo tournament in Switzerland - it's a special piece and was given to the players as a gift......hmmm....for me, I would take one as a gift, but would not spend money on one - just takes away from the original IMO.

I like the look of the ExpII in the picture. However, you're talking about taking a well designed tool watch and slapping a very expensive (maybe irreversible) coating on it. If you are now going to use this watch in less demanding situations, it should hold up just fine. If not, someday you'll chip the coating, and I don't think there's a way to patch it.

Why not buy a less expnsive brand that looks similar but was already made with a PVD coating?

I am not a fan, But I have to admit. In keeping an open mind. This is the best looking PVD watch I have seen. I like it.

I'm a fan of DLC/PVD if it's done right. IMO, it should never be shiny...defeats the purpose. If they would have treated the case properly before coating it...ie: sandblasting...it would have looked much better. But the watch above stinks in my opinion...cheapens the watch.

i like the look in the pics ,,, after ten mins i think i would het sick of it ,,, and i certainly wouldnt like it when it wears ,,, then i think it would look very very nasty.
i know pvd = indestructable ,,, but i have some pvd tungsten regs that are showing their age.
