Can I wear my Datejust in the Ocean?

Hi All,

I am taking a trip to the other side of the world (Bali, Indonesia) and I would love to take my Rolex with me. After all, Rolex are watches built for taking on adventures and travels.

My question is will it be ok to take in the salt water of the Indian Ocean?

I just took it to the Rolex A/D and they did a water resistance test and said it was good for 100 ft. Any thoughts on if Salt water is more damaging?

thanks

Thats what they are built for. Just wash with unsalted water when finished and all is good.

Warm water and hand soap as recommended.

If the test says it's good, it's good.

Thanks all, since it is a model from 1987. Just wanted to be sure that the salt wouldnt corrode the seals any more then a pool would.

You have given me piece of mind. Thanks!

Just make sure the gaskets & seals are fine, and screw down the crown!

Think the salt of the Indian ocean is different, something to avoid. Any other ocean probably ok.

Spent many many months on Bali working as a Diving instructor/guide and the salt water there is no different to any other salt water. Now the Red Sea is more salty, but although the DJ is not considered a dive watch it will be fine for just a splash dip in the sea.And for all Rolex oyster watches just wash in fresh tap water after being in sea water or pool water but make sure crown is screwed down just finger tight.

Hopefully the Rolex AD ...

... also checked the health of your bracelet if it's 20 years + old ( links, clasp and pins).

It's always good to know your bracelet's in good fettle before you jump into the briney

When I bought my DJ 25 years ago, it was because one can take a Rolex everywhere. Never asked myself the question if I could wear it in the ocean for example. I don't think there are many oceans, it has not been into.

I'm always a little iffy wearing my '65 DJ in the water, even though it's been pressure checked.....but I'm sure it's fine.

I hope your A/D meant 100m and not 100ft (which would be about 30m). Generally 30m would not be recommended for swimming.

Hey Boss... It won't be an issue in the water, and everyone on the streets will assume it's fake anyhow :)

If this is Bali I want to go! Looks like a nice place to grab a beer, enjoy a stogie and the view for a while.
