Urgent: Chronometre cert vs guarantee papers

I found a vintage 2.2M Rolex that I really like, however it comes with a Grantie/Attestation de Chronometre Officiel paper (punched) which has a number that is different from the serial number on the watch (the latter being 534...)

Reading http://www.rolexephemera.com/info-chronopapers.htm it seems like the older watches had separate guarantee and COSC cert papers, if I understand it correctly.

So could "my" paper be the correct one belonging to the watch?

Thanks!

Patrick

The paper is a genuine one with the red seal in the lower bottom corner (I have a complete scan of the papers but this photo will do for the purpose of this exercise). As you can see the chronometre paper read 534... however the serial number of the watch is 2.2M (1967/68).

Could it be that the paper refers to the certification or serial number of the movement per se (which is what is being COSC tested)? That is what the seller suggested. I thought these punched papers should have the serial numbers on them? Was it different in the 60-ies?

Thanks in advance!

Exactly, the serial # of the watch is 2.2M (that number is also on RSC papers from 2 years ago) but the punched papers is showing 5.3M.

I suspect that this paper has nothing to do with this watch per se, I am looking for confirmation.

I have a Bureaux Suisses Chronometer certificate from 1962 but no where on the certificate shows the serial number of the case.

It shows Movement number and certificate number and the normal techincal information with a chop at the bottom.

Yes ... If we talk about the earlier bureau Swiss papers this is of course possible on a few .. But most also have case number written or punched

it appears to me that the cert papers included is for a 5.4M serial number watch, which would date it about 10 years later.

Agree. Not a good sign.

Your paper is not correct for the watch. The serial number on the papers should match the watch serial number. Somewhere, sometime, someone added the non-matching paper to the watch package.

hey, you can't blame me for trying! :-)

the rest of the watch checks out, I was just thrown off by confusing piece of paper and the story (the seller is obviously not a professional seller. Nor am I...)

thanks guys!

If he is not being forthright about the chronometer papers, it might give me some concern about the watch. Good luck.

The guys checks out with well known refs. He is obviously not a professional seller/collector. Still, I was hoping to find one with papers...

Thanks guys!
