Thinking of buying this...

I've been looking for an airking 5500 recently and came across this one at the very top.... Well a bit higher then my price range, but I am in love with it. I want to jump on it sooo bad, but there are a few concerns. The seller altho having hundreds of positive feedback selling Rolex's, is located in South Korea. That makes me nervous. Also says the dial has been refinished and the whole watch has been polished. And I'm wondering how that should hurt the value now and the resale value. Please take a look and tell me what you think about the piece. Thanks in advance,
Justin

Hey Justin,I'm no expert on vintage Rolex's but buying this watch on Ebay from South Korea would scare me to death even though the seller has positve feedback.
I sure you will get some better advice from more knowledgeable TFR members but just be very careful, you hear too many horror stories on the forum about people getting ripped off.
Good Luck,Dave

Aren't there suppose to be model numbers (reference nos.) on the clasp itself? All I can see is a upper case letter A.

Just sayin'

Hi-

Even if the watch is fine, you cannot legally ship it to the U.S. due to Rolex USA trademark agreements. You risk confiscation by customs. I thought that this only applied to new watches, but I purchased an expensive Rolex form the UK recently and was nervous so contacted U.S. border and customs before shipping. I spoke to the supervisor of the New York Border and customs office and he informed me that anything bearing the Rolex trademark is subject to seizure regardless of age or condition. I ended up having a co-worker hand carry the watch back to New York for me. I would not suggest it unless your willing to take the risk, or have someone to hand carry it for you.

I wouldn't buy any Rolex with a refinished dial. There are enough original ones out there, so be patient.

Great looking watch .. I personally wouldnt take the risk buying that watch because of customs .. I'm also not a big fan of having a refinished dial .. I rather have the original dial .. It's really not a big deal if having a refinished dial is ok with you .. You are better off buying a AirKing here in the USA .. Avoid customs risk

This is not a rare watch, IMO, so finding one that is a little more local shouldn't be too difficult. I, personally, don't like the idea that the dial was redone.

The seller describes it as 35mm, which is often used to describe DJ's, but this watch should be 2mm smaller than the DJ. We normally call a standard DJ a 36mm case and an AK 34mm.

I agree Adam, plus the air king is pretty common

Ok, I will hold off. The customs risk is too much for me to deal with, I would be a nervous wreck! I'm trying so hard to find one of these, they dont seem to be that common :-(

Ok, How about this one lol. Im thinking of making an offer but the description seems awefully short for a high end watch.
