Buying my first rolex

I'm ready to pull the gun and buy my first Rolex (GMT IIc s/s). So I looked for an AD from the rolex website near my place. Drove to the AD and ask how much the GMT IIc. They said $7,900 then after a few mins looking at the watch and without bargaining they put it down to $7,500 out the door, tax and all. That made me think. 1st: maybe I can get the watch for cheeper maybe $7,000? 2nd: maybe the watch is fake? Well, basically my question is how much can I really get the GMT IIc? And more important how can I tell if its fake? I got the AD from the rolex website so I don't think that they will sell fake rolex right? But for some reason I felt that I was getting scammed. Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to the forum and to Rolex. I just want to at least get the best deal for a REAL Rolex.

If its an actual AD, and you can verify by looking on the Roplex Website, then there wouldn't be a scam. I don't have a price Guide handy but I believe the MSRP of a GMTIIC is over 8,000.

As to the price you pay it can vary a bit, but sounds like they were willing to give the first time buyer like yourself a decent deal. Many negotiations can go as you explained. They think you want it, soon as you start to walk away they start dropping the price a bit more. It depends on a number of circumstances what one place would offer versus another.

Check the for sale section here, then go to other ADs in your area if you have time and are willing to wait. Some people here may do better, but remember they may have an established relationship with an AD already or their Ads maybe offering better deals for one reason or another.

If ou wait to long the price they offered may not be the same or Rolex may have increased their price, they only do that about twice every year.

Have a peek around in the For Sale Section under Classifieds. Make sure if you buy from here it is from a trusted dealer such as BODYBUMP (Oscar), DAVIDSW (David), JUSTROLEXES (Tony), and MOSCO (Greg).

Don't get to concerned about a price change right now, as I am sure you still have some time. But look around and take sometime before doing something rash.

I believe the msrp is 7.9K. Also, if they are an AD, rest assured you're buying a genuine watch. Try the FS section here. You'll find a better deal.

Good luck!

Ah yes my Bad, as of May 10th this year the GMTIIC MSRP is 7,900. Typically you can do a bit better in the For Sale Section here than an AD.

Gosh, bought mine for 6301.01 in oct 09. Glad I did then .
cause every increase reduces the chance that I will
ever be able to afford another.

Nice choice, hope you get it. Offer the AD 70 one hundred dollar bills, out the door if you don't buy it here. And have em throw in a tune up in 5 years. Get it in writing.

Im going to try to go to another ad this wed. If the give it to me at 7k out the door I'll grab it. But do you think I should say a lower amount? Then tell them that I'm going to grab it at 7k if they don't budge?

Is 6301.01 too low to ask these days? I want a realistic number to start with so the will not send off the door with my first offer.
