Best watch under $1,000 (US).

Looking to get another watch, but don't want to spend more than a thousand on it. Other than like a Tag or Swiss, don't really know who to look at for a watch in the $500-$1000 range.

Any suggestions?

I've seen used Omega in that price range...

Almost bought a Sea Master for 1300.00 used.

Marathon is my recommendation. The quality is top notch (especially on the bracelet), it has a cool history and you will rarely see another one when you are out and about.

Seiko, not even a question. Seiko delivers quality in that price-range like no other brand will ever.

For half of that amount you can get Seiko Sumo, a watch of extreme quality, that gives you feeling and performance of much, much more expensive watch.
And, unlike Seiko Monster (best buy EVER, IMHO, remarkable watch with great looks and awesome bracelet), Sumo offers you more advanced movement, 6r15, with hand winding and hacking capability.
A winner in my book!

I would also check out Longines Hydroconquest automatic and Marathon.

Seiko Sumo for modern, Seiko 6105 or 6217 for vintage (Likely right around or above 1K for quality original example)

Seems Seiko is a pretty popular brand. I never really thought of them because I had been so used to seeing their watches in the mid range department stores, and had generally associated them with being a more mid level brand. Like Timex. Nice and affordable, but not really high end. Will have to give them a deeper look, but still thinking I want a name brand a little higher end. And the Sumo looks too similar to the Sub.

Seiko Automatic's are serveral times as expensive as the department store quartz examples. My Seiko Diver has amazing bang for your buck.
Also look at Hamilton, Sinn, Korsbek, zixen and Oris. All offer a good automatic beater for around a grand.

I've always like Swiss Army watches. You can get a really nice on in the 500 - 1000 range.

Depends what you want it for and what the other watches in your drawer are.

I have some nicer watches but didn't really want to wear them where they might get banged up. Decided to order a Seiko Monster from Yobokies with some mods to make it look more interesting. I should have it in a couple weeks. You could get one from Harold for under $250 if you were just looking for a hands and dial change from stock.

If you are looking for an interesting diver you might check out the Helios Laguna (around $700 I think).

If you're looking for something less sporty, I recommend Stowa. Great little german watch company and simply beautiful watches. I owned a couple before they had to go to fund my rolex.

G-shock is the only watch I'll buy beside my other swiss automatic watches.

take a trip to Orlando and visit the TAG Heuer outlet in Lake Buena Vista.
They do great deals and we have bought TAG models before at massively reduced prices, sometimes under $1,000

Thats my advice :)

I looked at Marathon's site, and they do have some nice looking watches. Although a bit bulky looking. But I have a Sub, so I want a watch with a different look than a black face and bezel.

Hamilton Jazzmaster and you will still have enough money for a few straps!

Here is the one I used to have, and I regret selling it.
