Never before seen LBJ photo
My wife was chatting with the folks at the Margaret Chase Smith Library (US Senator from Maine) about their mutual love affair with 1990 Cadillac Deville's - my wife has the identical car as the late Senator, when I noticed this photo of LBJ and MCS sharing a moment at a Washington Senators game. Don't know about disrespecting or not, but Johnson's "Great Society" is, to a very large degree, responsible for the mess this country is in right now.

Are you serious? Have you any idea how many presidents we've had since LBJ? Really? LBJ is "to a very large degree, responsible for the mess this country is in right now." ?? |

Take a look at the numbers. What's bankrupting this country is that we're spending hundreds of billions of dollars more than we're bringing in. The overwhelming majority of that spending is for entitlement programs (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, etc.). Those entitlement programs were enacted by Johnson -- i.e., the "Great Society". Each subsequent president -- including Reagan -- continued and many expanded those programs. But, they started with Johnson. |

These differences are the reason there are rules here about threads pertaining to politics, religion, and firearms. No offense gentleman, for the sake of the OP let's just agree to disagree.

I, too, will digress from a historical discussion and defer to the forum rules. It does, however, go without question that our country was well below the $1T "in the hole" mark until well after LBJ was in office -- and we can dicker about what got us where we are in the last 40 years, but it's mostly what southerners would call "chin music." I can, however appreciate anyone, especially a Commander in Chief, having an interest in the same watches I am interested in. If you want some real interesting history, go check out Dwight D. E.'s letter correspondence with Rolex regarding his President watch. Or maybe check out the various Apollo crewmens' predilection towards Rolex GMT's, and their wearing of same during space flight, in conjunction with them being issued Omega Speedmasters (on nylon straps, no less) while in their space suits.
