Should have deployed with my GMT...

So, I'm about halfway through my Afghanistan deployment, and being my first one, I was on the fence about bringing my Pepsi along. In the end, I decided to leave it tucked away safely at home, and wore my casio here instead.

Well, after missing driving my cars, the GMT is the thing I miss the most since I've been here (besides the gf, family, and beer of course haha!)

So much so, that I've been half tempted to use some of this tax free paycheck towards a SD... I wonder if people would be willing to ship to an APO

Anyways, its probably best that I didnt bring it due to the unnecessary attention it would have drawn here, but I actually have seen someone with a Sub where I work here, and a couple of other nice time pieces...

So I realize this post is somewhat pointless, but all I'm trying to say is make sure you all enjoy your family, watches and other "things" (heck even having a cold beer would be great... I havent gone this long without one since middle school )
Realizing that there are some of us that have to be away from what we love.
Really happy that this forum is still easily accessible from halfway around the world, as it is a nice retreat from the realities of this place, and everyones pictures and posts are definitely helping time pass by here on my off time.

As a vet of Iraq 91' I thank you for your service and completely understand! I left my Coke GMT back home when I departed for the war. I missed it terribly!

If you are serving out in Afganistan my friend, you have my greatest respect. Maybe it is best that you didn't take your Pepsi GMT along and i know how you feel,as i would feel the same in your position.The Casio is fine and your GMT is safe for when you get home. Hang in there bud, you are doing a fine job.

I hope all is going well for you. If I was worried about my Rolex, I would still want an automatic watch with me, like my old Seiko, but if your life depends on the correct time, then a Casio will serve you well.

Are there no AD's in Afghanistan?? I am sure they would discount well to someone in body armour??

Hey Sierra Five Two, you could have taken your GMT and swapped it around with your Casio, but you know it'll be there when you get home. Treat yourself to that SD you deserve it.

I had a Rolex sent to an APO earlier this year, it's a bit nerve wracking but it did make it. In hind sight I probably would not recommend it especially for a watch like a SD.

Not having a beer for a while ain't such a bad thing, i hope you have a chance to get down to the gun shop and lift some good weights or do some decent cardio sessions.

Stay safe and keep your powder dry mate. You'll enjoy that beer when you get home.

People will certainly deliver to an apo! My buddy got his doxa delivered new from the factory out to the Stan. A few of the sellers on here will ship to you as well. There is nothing wrong with a little post deployment present to yourself.
My last trip out there, some contractor was walking around with a serti sub. Little surprised when I saw that in the chow hall. Oh, and don't drink the near beer, it's not worth it.

Me too 3/7 1st Marine Div TF Grizzly. Only I didn't have a Rolex back then I had my trusty Timex Camper that was thoroughly trashed by the time I left.

Here here! A toast to you S52. I think you did right leaving your prized GMT home where it safely awaits your return with a hug on your wrist. Youll always remember how much you missed it and will therefore cherish it even more for your entire life. That said, if you want to wear a Rolex there and can afford another...go for it.

A GMT is made for soldiering. I used my rootbeer for everything, and abused it appropriately. After 5 years with the 101st, I used it in plant and constuctions settings. Gave it to a son a couple years ago, and it's still going strong. Casio's are fine, till they quit working.
