First Watch - Should i go vintage?
I've been doing a lot of research and am ready to make my first major watch purchase. I've landed on the submariner. My favorite is the 5513. I am planning for this to be my everyday watch and some people have been telling me that its better to go with a newer model if my expectation is to wear it everywhere (in the lake, playing sports, etc).
Please let me know your thoughts. |

Personally I wear vintage watches every single day and wouldn't want it any other way. If your heart is set on vintage who cares what anyone else thinks- go for it. The 5513 is a great daily watch as well and one you would get many years of enjoyment out of! Welcome to TRF!!

Some vintage Rolexes have been around for 50/60 years already, so they must have been durable enough to be worn daily and still exist today.

Exactly Kyle--I am wearing a 60 year old watch right now that keeps perfect time and there isn't a modern watch that could take it's place!!

+1, go for it, sure will keep you happier hunting down your dream 5513 than just buying a new watch off the counter, which is far easier and not that fulfilling. If you intend using it extremely roughly, at most you may consider keeping your original crystal and replacing with a service replacement. Also not sure at what frequency they are tested for water resistance, but you would be safer doing that at recommend intervals so that the dial and hands stay safe. One things for sure, you won't be sorry with your vintage purchase:)

If it's any help, I wear my c.1977 1665 everyday......It's been swimming with me all summer....
As long as you have it properly serviced, no worries.... Best of luck.... |

You can wear any vintage everyday, especially a 5513. Vintage != brittle.
