Considering JLC Reverso
Hi guys, hoping for some opinions. Always thought I was gonna be satisfied with 2 watches for the rest of my life(speedy and DJ) But have seriously been lusting over a JLC reverso.
Am considering the reverso classique or Grande Taille, which one would be better? Do you think the classique too small even for my 6.5" wrist or even a ladies watch? And if I bought these brand new from an AD, would their value tank over time? I know I need to try both on. Thanks Classique Grande Taille |

Hi, good choice.
When I was investigating Reverso's, I found that the Classique size (38.5 mm) seemed too small for me (7.0 wrist), but the Grande Taille (42 mm) was much better. Even for my wife, the Grande Taille was a better fit/look. We went further and got her the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 (46 mm) which looks great, on her or myself! So I would recommend the Grande Taille at a minimum for men. The small seconds adds a nice touch to the dial. The Classique is more of a woman's size as the taste for larger watches predominates. Here is a pic to give you some scale, however it includes the larger Grande Reverso UT Tribute. I also included a pic of a Reverso Duo (42 mm) on the sales lady's wrist to give you some idea of size. Too bad I don't have the Classique, but at the jeweler's we though the Grande Taille was better on her or myself compared to the Classique size. Maybe we just like the larger size. Shop around, ask the usual forum sellers, you'll likely find a good deal. I've seen the Classique available preowned on reputable resellers sites. The Grande Taille will be harder to find.

My only advice for you here is to try them on in person. Reversos fit quite strangely depending on the shape of your wrist, so you really need to try them all on before you buy.
That being said, I recommend the 1931, I tried it on at a Basel press event and LOVED the shape and size of it. Favorite Reverso yet. It also comes in a version without patina of course. |

Bingo. I loved the grande gmt and tried it on. Can to conclusion it just doesn't fit my wrist properly. Lugs peaking out over the edge and I have a 6.5" wrist as well.

^ Second that - I've tried on a few and they do fit differently. I also agree that the Classique looks small.

Do it !!! A Reverso is such a classic watch with a great history behind it just like a Rolex. As you know there are many different Reverso's out there. When I was in the market for mine, I went down to the AD due all the different case sizes. My goal was to have a sport watch that could be dress with a strap swap. I went with the Squadra model for its articulated rubber strap. Only minor draw back is the case is thick but still a very comfy watch to wear.
As for the value, yes they will drop in market value the minute you walk out the from door from your AD. I suggest going to the AD and figuring out which model you like then trying to find it LNIB or pre-loved for 40-30% off retail. JLC as a brand is already a great value in SS, add buying pre-loved or grey dealer JLC is a no brainer. good luck, i hope to see some wrist shots soon

Nice choice. My advice is to stick with the classic version. It's clearly a dressy watch and is made for an "office" setting. If the size is going to be a problem, you might try a different watch.

Really appreciate the input guys. I love the tribute, but would want a white faced watch.
What started this I saw a guy in the pub with one, and I thought it was the classique. No small seconds and it looked good. I ain't got a problem with small watches, but don't really want one that is now considered a ladies. Eric, I love that watch, but believe you bought it for your missus? Will go try them on, it's just I feel 2 watches extravegent, adding a 3rd I dunno. Even considered flipping my DJ for it. But that's just madness. |

I like the dial on the Grande Taille a bit better. I don't like the plain white dial. But I would definitely have to try both on first before making a final choice.
