All These Fantastic Looking Vintage Watches...
that i see here - is part of the reason they look so spectacular because they are refinished or updated with period-correct parts that are mint?
I am interested in getting my first vintage watch (an older Sub) and looking around on even well recommended websites or on sales areas of respected forums - the watches here seem to be overwhelmingly in much better condition (whether it be red 1680's, 5512's, 5513's, even Bond models). I am just trying to understand what the chances are of finding original specimens in unaltered states - or if i need to look at this type of project as partially a restoration project to approach some of the beauties I see on here? thanks! |

Finding a vintage watch that is in nice original condition is not an easy thing.....
The reason that you see a fair number of excellent examples here on the forum is because the "enthusiasts" here have taken the time and done the research necessary to acquire such examples.... Anyone with money can acquire a modern watch....But the acquisition of a fine vintage piece takes, time, knowledge and experience.... It took a number of years and the purchase and subsequent sale of four 1665's before I finally found the one that I was truly happy with.... Best of luck... |

@ufboy73: well, not exactly. The best example of an original vintage is usually one in unrestored condition and that is completely original. These are harder to find but given time, patience and offcourse most importantly finances permitting, they are always available to a keen buyer.
