Having thoughts about Explorer 214270
Hello to everyone!
I' ve spent the last 2 days reading everything related to the new explorer, but still I 'd prefer to have more personal opinions. I'm going to spent a large amount on an exspensive watch and the 214270 is first on my list. I 've rejected the Sub ND because it shouts it is a rolex and is very common. I have doupts if the explorer is casual and sportive enough, I'm 27 and I want it as an everyday watch - at work and fun! I 'm also looking a very different watch, the Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver, which is a very uncommon watch, but I'm afraid of after sales service and value. Thank you in advance! |

I like to the Explorer 214270 , but i want to visit the AD to see it in my hand before i buy it , IMO, its more classic than sportive, but I'm 36 Y's and its suitable for me ,
But for your age i think the Sub its better choice for you |

Welcome to TRF.
You really can't go wrong with a Rolex watch. As long as you like it, that's all that matters.

The Exp 1 is a perfect everyday watch. If you like it don't hesitate to own one.

Exp 1 is a great all rounder for sure.
If you want a Rolex that doesn't scream its a Rolex, have a look at Milgauss. They are both great watches. |

1. You have good taste if you have the Speedy Pro.
2. If you want a Rolex that doesn't shout that it's a Rolex, the 39MM Exp is a perfect choice. 3. IMO, the EXP 39MM is the most versatile sport Rolex. Classy and sporty/casual. The Sub No Date is more sport/casual than dress BUT the EXP 39MM does both. A better overall fit for your criteria as "everyday" and work/casual. Quote:

I think that the Explorer 39 is a great watch..
But to say that the Sub is "common" is really a stretch.. Because you know what one looks like you can spot a couple of them in a room (if you are in the right company), but I would daresay that you wouldn't be able to spot any other brand.. Likely there are many more G-shocks, Seikos or Omegas, or whatever in the same room... Don't pass up the watch that you really want (it's the one you notice most isn't it) in the mistaken belief that "everybody has one".... Believe me, "everybody" does not wear a 5,000 dollar watch..

First Rolex at 27 years....you have done well! Congrats! I agree that Exp 39 is a great watch which has the same trusty movement as the current 14060M. You can't go wrong with that as your choice. However you may want to consider models with a date function if you are one of those that "rely" on the watch to get the date. The Sub date and ExplorerII comes to mind. Good luck with your choice and choose the one that 'sings' to you!!

First of all thank you all for your answers!

I don't mind a date because I'm all time in front of a computer! My doupts are if explorer is sportive enough to be worn with shorts for exapmle. On the other hand, when I say sub is common, I mean is very common at the range of 5.000 euro watches... I personnaly saw at least 10 Subs during vacations and I didn't go anywhere expensive... Wearing a watch that shouts it is a rolex is something I would like to avoid, especially in my work. Having said that, wouldn't you conclude that explorer is for me, as I did? |

I was in the same dilemma then opted for the Sub ND after trying both out at the AD. Both have its merits, what I like on both of them are they are without date and the cyclop, makes them look neat and clean

Make sure you try it on first. I liked them until I tried one on. It's nice, but pretty plain and kind of boring. But that's just me. I'd go for the UN myself.

I am about to pull the trigger on a Exp. 39 because it's a low profile Rolex compared to the other models. You could wear the Exp. on the bracelet and make it your dress watch. Or you could do what I am planning on doing by putting a vintage/distressed leather strap on it. Then it becomes a casual watch that no one would suspect as a Rolex. You can always swap between the bracelet and strap depending on the occasion.
Below are some explorer watches on straps that I found on the net.

I can't think of a better everyday watch than the 214270, unless it is the 114270.
I would highly recommend it based on my experience with the 114270 and having tried on the 214270 for myself.

Very classic watch. Easily an every day wearer. I don't think you should have any doubts. Go to your AD and try it on!

The new Exp1 is a great watch..
Just try it out at an AD and you'll know which way to go.

Expy I is a great looking watch - however I think next year Rolex will unveil an updated Sub Non-date (supercase and glidelock) which may also be a good choice.....IF it is released, you'll have to wait until this time next year to buy it!
Good luck!! |

Love the new Exp1 214270!! The dial, case, & bracelet are a very nice upgrade from the older model (114270)!

I use my 214270 Explorer as a dress watch when I wear a suit for weddings, etc.
The improvements over the 36mm Explorer make it a keeper for me. I think it is an excellent everyday watch. |

Once again thank you all for your responses!
Do you also wear it and in more casual cases? |
