Rolex White Dial...anything special with them?

Stupid Q...i have a white dial TOG (see avatar). The dial is glossy and pure white. I love it. Is there anything special/exotic about the white dial? Enamel? Special material?

Just wondering.

Their is something special regarding the white dials "Rolex dial option #53" because they are only available at time of purchase compared to most other dials which Rolex will allow you to change to during a service. Rolex regards the white dial as a premium option but does not charge more at time of original sale. I use to be a buyer for a large company and worked with Rolex for a number of years.

Wow, good to know! I wonder what makes it "special" or "premium" over the other dials? Is it an enamel dial?

When I ordered mine the AD told me it is coated with porcelain rather than just painted.

Not sure if that is true but it sure looks better than other dials... creamier, if that makes sense.

Either way, I love it!

Are you sure? so if I went into Rolex and said I wanted them to change my DJ dial to a white one, they would refuse.

I just called Rolex Dallas...you can get white dial (at servicing time) just like any other colored dial. Same price.

I always thought that Rolex will give you a white dial at service but only to replace your original white dial.

Nope I ask if I could switch my silver dial with a white one. The lady said no problem.
