The "Shark" Submariner....

I've only seen a few pics, and never one in person. Can anyone share any history or pics/places to buy the infamous blue shark sub.

Note: not referring to the wg sub, which I will have someday....

Step 1. Sell your soul for a ceramic blue insert.
Step 2. Send it to abc watch works in LA to have them fit the insert.
Step 3. Be one of only a handful of lucky sob's with one.

Ahhh.... So it was never a limited run or anything - you have to make it yourself?

Yep. Good luck if you attempt to get one. So far on the board here I've seen two. They are awesome!

The Sub-C looks really nice with the blue insert. Any idea what they cost?

Thanks

Man, I LOVE the blue bezel on a Sub! If that was an option from Rolex I'd easily buy it over a GMT.

Steve: have you always had PCLs on that watch? From which other model did you source that bracelet?

a lot of hard work, diligence and money!! Lol
I bought a SS SubC 116610LN and scoured for the Bezel insert. I also have a bnib WG Blue Sub Dial but not sure what I am going to do with it yet. The hardest part that took months was finding a place willing to do the exchange of the black to the blue!

The insert if you can get one runs around $1500 plus the fee to install it. The SubC runs $8k at msrp. I paid quite a bit less than that for my SubC

IMHO, stick with the black dial.

Be careful, you will not be able to do a RSC servicing (they will put a black insert)... And rolex tends to limit the distribution of spare parts to the independant jewelers: to control the parts market and limit the frankenwatches trials.

i like the 116610LN as is.... its abit like the TT Blue Sub... the blue, black and gold makes it looking "too busy"...

(am i the only one to think that?)

I quite like the blue bezel against the black dial and I think it's worth the trouble trying to source it bar future servicing issues.

But I would never change the dial to the WG blue as then you would be deep into WG immitation territory which is a little like giving up on the challenge of actually owning one. Also everytime someone asked if that's a WG Sub, you would continually be making your excuses.

I have seen a few SS Daytona's with the WG panda dial and again, for me, its a bit of a cop out even though i can understand why people go for it as its a fantastic dial, I would just rather save for the real thing........just my 2cents

Hey, who cares that for what the mods cost, Steve could have had a WG Sub and a Patek, I admire his spunk! :)

JK, I know he got a good deal on his Sub C, which paid for the extras.
Personally I like Steve's Shark more than the WG version. The WG is too blue for me.

I'm pretty happy with my stock Sub C, another one Steve got a good deal on. :) I call it the Minnow...

LOL Ari! Not sure I could afford the phone call to the AD for a Patek or a WG Sub!! At least I was able to get a good deal on two SS Subs!

I do like the look. The purist in me can't turn away from the SS SubC though.
