When I go to shopping malls with my girlfriend and such, Im always looking at wrists and its pretty easy to spot a sporty type Rolex. Usually its too far to be specific as to which it is (SD, Sub, GMT etc) but I can definately tell. I do have trouble though trying to point out the dressier kinda Rolexes. There are so many companies that have that dress watch look like the Datejusts and daydates etc. This makes it tough to be 100% on that. Anyone else have this trouble or am I just a moron?

Well, I'd say I could spot ANY "Rolex" at a distance. But from a distance, it is hard to tell whether the "Rolex" worn is the real McCoy or just another knock-off.

In Berlin, I spotted a quite good SS Sub Date FAKE, but that was at close distance, so I could tell right away that it was a fake. It did have sweeping seconds, and the Rolex writing was nice clear, "right" and WHITE.

But the bracelet and especially the CLASP sucked. Also, typically!. the cyclops was not magnifying the date in the right way.

I did not comment on it, though. Just had my own thoughts about it, even though I talked to the guy wearing that fake on a flea market.

I ever spot a Sub Date from a distance and I pretty sure it's fake

Cos the Sub Date is runs by battery, the "second" hands step by step ticking

i have seen my parents friends with what appears to be a datejust yellow gold but then when i closely looked at it ....turns out it was omega.

the thing is ...they are the real deal too

unless one is very interested in rolex watches. it is pretty easy to spot.

the bracelet* the links and connection are unique in a certain way* - ss metal, jubilee, 2 tone one.

the cyclops - very few if not none has the type of magnifying glass like rolex.

however, it is hard to spot the difference between the real and those replica ones.

Here, fakes are not that common,usually,its the real thing.

Being a designer and a Rolex fanatic...I think I have a good eye for the sports models at least. The proportions and finishes are engrained in my mind. The bracelet and the cyclops are usually what I get first glimpses of. Then it's time to take a closer look to see the movement and magnification of the cyclops...lol
I have a feeling...here in Hawaii anyway...I've probably seen more fake DD's and DJ's than the sports models...
I know it's not right to judge a book by it's cover...but I think possible to spot a real Rolex owner as opposed to one who would sport a fake...
But that's just me...hehehe

I know what you mean Bull...Ive been hovering the board for a few weeks and decided to join knowing that hopefully one day I will own one with yous. I had a friend over in Kuwait that sent me some replicas back for fun and I wear them on occasion. hehe its just to get my hopes up to that one day to when I'll have the real one on my wrist...

I can tell most sport models but like everyone said, you cant go up and inspect a dudes wrist..that would be odd and most likely result in an awkward look or an untimely beatdown. (if its fake or not that is)...Alot of times I see people walking to their cars and look at their wrists. Few weeks ago I saw a couple walk to their car, saw he had a high polished DD on and then proceeded to get in a Lexus LS460..so my guess it was probably Authentic.

Thats what Im saying though.When I spotted this person getting into the Lexus, I assumed it was a real Rolex. If you got into a Rover, I would still assume it would be a real Rolex. Anyone I see with a sub or other rolex style sport watch on, I always assume its real. That person knows for sure weather it is or not. What I'm saying is that it is easier for me to confirm a real Oyster when someone like this guy above gets into a Lexus LS460 ya know? Thats all. Most other times I can't really tell. I look for the Cyclops mag but its hard to tell from across the walkway.

Horses for courses...I to own a Rover and its twelve years old, as long as it gets me from A to B i dont care, but wearing fake watches now thats a different story, i would rather spend two hundred quid on a seiko than buy a fake Rollie.

I see quite a few Rolex watches around town. I always assume they're real unless I can get a close-up and find out otherwise. I've only spotted a few fakes, most of the time they're the real deal!

I think in the same ways, and it makes sense. If you see a person in an Armani suit, Mont Blanc in his top pocket and leaving a French restaurant he's a load more likely to have a Rolex than a person in a tracksuit, a pencil perched on his ear and leaving a McDonald's.

I don't agree. Most of the people I know who wear Rolex watches don't fit this mold at all, INCLUDING ME!
